Luis Garcia also has 3 years control. I would say Garcia and any 3 prospects not named Brown or Gilbert. Feels like Leon/Barber/Chas/Garcia should be ok? Down to include Whitley and and other good prospect pitcher as well.

We may have reached the part of the offseason where the Astros go silent.

Team go crazy spending money, and free agents are demanding way too much

I agree. They “might” look at re-signing some of their own guys on the cheap.

Yep. I could see a 1 year deal with Brantley, or a 2 year deal with Vazquez, but otherwise, wait them out.

No one’s pricing themselves out of the Astros budget. We don’t need SS’s, Judge, Frontline starters, etc. There’s an abundance of catchers, pitchers, reserves, LH hitting still out there. Astros will get a good deal as teams reach their spending limits.

Agree, but Whitley never had success at the AAA much less in mlb. Even in a tiny sample size, we know Brown can be successful here

We also know that The Astros had the confidence not only to put him on the post-season rosters, but actually pitch him in the post-season after having a limited look during the last month of the reg. Really not comparable at all to Whitley

Yes. It was mostly a joke. But, if he is a HOF guy he can get 30 WAR in his first 6 years. I’d give it a 5-10% chance of happening.

I always love watching all these big market teams spending like drunk housewives online. All that just to bow down to the Astros.

I just double checked. Garcia has 4 years of club control left. It is confusing because it is rare to be given a salary substantially higher than the minimum in the second year when he has no arbitration rights. $1,251,500 is out of the ordinary for a player with only one service year.

But 4 years of control is a factor in his trade value.

    That’s insane for Nimmo

our window might go forever with so many teams putting themselves in trouble with bad contracts

    Astros get: C/OF Daulton Varsho

Diamondbacks get: RHP Jose Urquidy, C Yainer Diaz, SS Grae Kessinger

Strom gets one of his favorites again. Diaz gives them a RHH bat, and Kessinger is basically a throw-in since they want IF depth.

I was on the trade Whitley train from the beginning.. although, to be fair, I was also on the trade Tucker train during the same offseason/trade deadline that everyone said they were “untouchable”.
Glad we didn’t trade Tucker, but ugh, wish we got rid of Whitley because he was at the level value-wise of hunter brown right now. But I like brown now better than i did Whitley back then.
