If Justin Verlander wants a 5 year contract, so he plays until 45, how much would you give him? Would you rather bet on his health and effectiveness, or DeGroms?

If I had to give a 5 year deal to one or the other, definitely Verlander. Bigger frame, plus deGrom has a bad injury history. I also think JV's mechanics, overall, look cleaner.

Yeah, thats not realistic. No one gives a 40 year old MLB pitcher 5 years. The Degrom signing carries the expected injury risk. If it didn't he would have cost a lot more.

Winkler was not popular in Mariners clubhouse. Did not put in the work. Wasn't in shape. They sent him home in playoffs as they didn't want him in the clubhouse. Does not seem like a good fit for Astros.

Sounds like small sample size. Strikeout rate stabilizes with only 70 batters faced while something like line drive rate is 650 balls in play. His higher flyball percentage isn't necessarily a bad thing. I guess we'll find out next year, assuming he can stay healthy.

I wouldn't be totally opposed to matching deGrom with 3 years guaranteed and 3 years of conditional options. The conditional options being the cost of beginning 4 years older. But Crane may not be willing to go there.

It's easier for me to digest $37M than $45M AAV. But I've been on the Retire an Astro bandwagon all along.

I’d do 5/150 in a heartbeat and probably go as high as 5/160.

I’d give him the following options:
    1/45
    2/80
    3/110
    4/135
    5/150.

I wouldnt even give verlander 25m a year for one year. I want to spend that on more bats or framber/tucker/javier. Also, for alot of money i would want a reliable playoff pitcher. Verlander has proven he aint that.

    We can disagree.

I just wanted to know what you were basing your opinion on.

I don't see how a single catch in 2018 qualifies but you do and you are entitled to that.

FYI Meyers had 4 DRS in 402 innings.
Benitendi had 1 in 766 innings for KC
and 1 in 275 innings for NYY

If we don't resign him I hope the Mets overpay him. They are zero threat.

The Rangers have followed a very unorthodox path since their org flamed out following the 2016 season. Feel like they are almost trying to emulate the Angels.

Fine in that we were still a dynastic team between 2017 and present. Could we have had one more ring had we kept the entire band together (Cole Springer and Correa). Who knows. It is baseball.

Did you understand the "when be came back" part?

    Lol

You essentially just said DeGrom looked totally healthy after a prolonged injury.

He's started 26 games in the last 2 seasons.

This contract will be death of the Texans.

It’s not based on a single catch. It’s merely an example but yeah we disagree. Nothing wrong with that
