DeGrom looked very healthy when he came back last year. I like this deal for the Rangers.

He absolutely fell apart towards the end.

The move makes the Mets worse but doesn't make the Rangers a playoff team. Even best case scenario, this is lighting money on fire.

I can see the Rangers getting a lot better this year. I can see the Yankees getting a lot worse. It is possible the Rangers challenge for a WC spot. They just need to improve the pen.

The Rangers are going to set a payroll record for teams that finish 4th in the division.

Dude had a K% of 42.3 in that time frame. He absolutely did not fall apart. There were only six qualified starters over 30% this season, the highest of which being Carlos Rodon at 33.4%. deGrom when healthy is the best pitcher in baseball. It's not even debatable.

I've followed him for years... excellent power for middle infielder but has had setbacks in upper levels.

    High boom bust potential...

DeGrom to Rangers is a big deal. It makes me want to keep Verlander more. Our rotation is really young so having that veteran presence leading the charge is super valuable.

The AL West is not going to be a cakewalk. Mariners Angels and Rangers have all improved this off-season IMO.

Do they show players on the tv when they are on the injured list?

If they spend that much money on him, they better.

Yes, unless it also included a JV extension (which I'm presuming, no). At least we'd likely have good trade fodder for August.

In the back of my mind, I'm thinking of an Ohtani deadline deal which requires a cushion.

Not smart to bank on another team (especially in your division) becoming sellers at the deadline. Especially with the extra WC spot. I don't think the Angels will make the postseason but we can't predict the future.

His hard hit % was 4% higher than his career average.
His flyball % was 8% higher than his career average.

No doubt he's still striking guys out but something changed.

2 years longer at an AAV $8M less than some projections. So no 3-$130M, but 5-$185M with an option for $37M for a sixth year.

Perhaps, he will stick to his 3 year stance but reduce his AAV. Maybe go from 3-$130 to 3-$115. it's hard to know what he's thinking.

Try to sell him "ST in Florida (assuming that's what he prefers), stay with your buddy Crane, we are going all-out, no state income tax, contender with a great lineup and defense, and chase 300 W, 4000 K, and 20 postseason W." Most I'd go is 3/$38M plus a 4th year option solely for AAV purposes.

Absolutely. That would be a wasted opportunity.
