That's my crazy plan to move Hensley to 1B with SS skills and a 6'6" frame. Length and range at 1B IF we do not choose acquire a 1B bat externally. I realize he is pegged as the Utility Infielder, but I like his PAs and defense.
Well, I'll give you guys a couple of days off while I make a trip to Tyler for a Funeral. Last of my parents generation.
I honestly wouldn't mind trying that. We also have Dubon (if that gives him less time in the OF, that would be great since his routes are terrible), and could open some time for Will Wagner, Corey Julks, Grae Kessinger, etc.
Stanley's is a great BBQ place. It's near Trinity/Christus Mother Frances Hospital. Villa Montez is a fancy Latin influenced restaurant. Those are the 2 places we try and get to when we go to Tyler.
Yeah I'm hoping we can convert him to a 1B, that extra length is gonna mean a few saves on errant throws.
Altuve made it all the way through Arb before he signed his 7 year deal. That was the longest contract the Astros have ever given. Bregman made it through pre-Arb, as did Alvarez.
I'm sure Altuve is a lifelong Astro who will sign a team friendly deal at 35 once this one ends. I THINK Bregman is willing and wants to be a lifelong Astro too but at 31 it will be harder to get his contract worked out. Especially if he has 2 more very good seasons. I expect he would be willing to give a small hometown discount but not a medium or large one. 3 yrs / $54M for Altuve ages 35-37. 6 yrs / $150M for Bregman ages 31-36. What do you guys think?
The numbers are probably going to be higher once the time comes. It will be interesting to see what other things need to be addressed once the time arrives.
https://theathletic.com/3944053/2022/11/28/mlb-free-agency-rumors-degrom-abreu/ • José Abreu remains a target of the Astros, Padres and other clubs, but one executive with a pulse on the market senses that the free-agent first baseman is intrigued by the possibility of playing for one of the two Florida teams. Abreu, a native of Cuba who turns 36 on Jan. 29, owns a home south of Miami. The question is whether the Marlins or Rays, two of the game’s most reluctant spenders, would be willing to meet his price. Abreu also might prefer to join a team that is perceived to be a stronger World Series contender. The Astros just won the Series. The Padres made it to the NLCS. But the Rays, one of six teams to make the postseason each of the last four years, are no slouch.
Is this really how things are going to be reported now? Teams have no interest in a player but the agent wants to get as many teams involved as possible, so he floats suggestions that he wants to play close to Cuba and maybe one of those teams will be interested (even though Tampa is not all that close to Miami/Cuba, and as the article writer puts it, they're "reluctant spenders") I honestly think every baseball "insider" would become extinct without agents.
