I’d be happy to make you a bet of any amount and kind that you want that Rodon will be a better value for his next contract than JV. Name the terms. I have a ton of appreciation for JV. I just would not in any way shape or form give him a 3/130M contract. At 24M per for Rodon you can get 2 premier bats. At 43 for JV you can get 1 decent bag. Rodon/Contreras/Abreu is better than JV/ $12M bat.
Abreu is a $12 mil/yr bat. JV >Rodon and we dont need a catcher, especially one that sucks calling games.
Again 15-5 3.04 through the ALCS His troubles only begin in the World Series. Let's not try to generalize his "playoff" issues. He's helped 2 teams get to the WS a grand total of 5 times. For the person who has said Rodon hasn't done jack isn't exactly wrong.
Better value is relative. Your definition of it is obviously extremely puzzling There’s only one thing that matters JV is clearly better than Rodon. Your assumption of rodon being more trustworthy is straight comedy
$ per war. That’s it. That’s the value the entire industry ascribes to players. If I’m comically wrong make the bet. the last time I was told I was an idiot on this board was when I said to trade Wood bc he would never be a part of a winning rockets organization and his value wasn’t ever going to be higher. I got roundly mocked and ridiculed and then I cashed a $500 winner on here. You make this bet with me and I will laugh and take your money too.
Sure you did. If wood has to be your defense to make yourself look better it means nothing to me.don’t act like you were in some boat by yourself. it has nothing to do with this conversation. Wood stinks. Who tf cares JV is vastly better than rodon. That’s what matters
https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/11/offseason-outlook-houston-astros-13.html No revelations but solid summary: Houston has needs at 1B, LF/DH, and maybe C and LHRP. They have a surplus of SP and a relatively weak farm. They should have between $30M and $50M available to add to the 2023 payroll. The more I think about it the more I think they’ll have to be smart and let Verlander go. They need 2 bats to lengthen their lineup and if the spend on Verlander they likely won’t have the money leftover to adequately address those holes. Current roster prediction: 2B Altuve SS Pena DH Alvarez 3B Bregman RF Tucker 1B TBD (Abreu, Bell, or Gurriel) LF TBD (Happ, Benintendi, Conforto, Haniger, or Brantley) CF McCormick C Maldonado Bench: Dubon, TBD (Lee, Diaz), Hensley, Meyers Rotation: Valdez, Javier, McCullers, Garcia, Urquidy, Brown Bullpen: TBD (Hand, Chafin, Rogers, Moore, Norris), Maton, Stanek, Montero, Neris, Abreu, Pressly
It feels like if Crane wants Verlander badly enough, Verlander is likely going to go that much over the tax.
Agreed. I'd say Tucker's absolute floor should be 10/212 which is what Austin Riley got. Both are roughly at the same service time and their ages are three months apart. Tucker's been worth nearly one more win than Riley in 310 less PA. I would also bet on Tucker being a serviceable defender for longer than Riley.
Here's my take on keeping Verlander. He stretches the rotation perfectly. We have McCullers going aginst other teams #3 and Javier against other teams #4. Without Verlander at the top then most likely McCullers goes against other teams #2. And if he goes down for a bit then there's an issue. Matchup with Verlander: #1 Verlander #2 Framber #3 McCullers #4 Javier #5 Garcia/Brown Matchup without Verlander #1 Framber #2 McCullers #3 Javier #4 Garcia #5 Brown/Urquidy Until Brown can prove himself worthy of a good rotation guy, McCullers can prove he an pitch effectively and stay healthy and Javier can prove he can pitch an entire season as a starter in the #3 slot then I'm not sold on that rotation. Bats can go quiet in the post season more so than good pitching gets rocked.
