Why wait 3+ weeks to mention it?

Jeff Passan that is. How long has he known?

How has the James ship sailed away?

I don't think it has sailed away as long as he is still on the roster and given chances.

But he has not shown he can pitch effectively for long periods or even stay healthy, so I think Anchor is raised and sails are ready to hoist.

Would y’all do an even swap of Cristian Javier for Jeff McNeil?

I think no, based on his last 2 years, which seem to show his power from 2019 was an aberration, and the fact that he does not play a position of need

He is a low draft choice who has shown he has ++ pitches and is not being paid much why would you raise the anchor at this point when you don't have a lot sunk into the asset?

I like how McNeill is a LHH who can play some infield positions, but SS and CF are not positions he can play. He's basically just the four corners + 2B. IMO, to be a true utility player you have to be able to play SS. I wouldn't mind him as a possible bounce back candidate offensively, but defensively there's just no home. If he could play at least just one of SS/CF, I'd be all over him. But he can't.

I'm sure he still has an opportunity

But there are only so many starts, games, and innings

And over the years new pitchers have graduated from the minors. The team needs to see what they can do too.

He doesn't have as much slack as he did 2-3 years ago.

Watching the Ken Burns baseball documentary reminded me of this play from early last season. One of my favorites.

Are you talking about Cristian Javier? 2-3 years ago he had not pitched in the major leagues. His debut was 17 months ago and he has pitched well. 9-5, 3.53 ERA, 1.11 whip, 10.5 K/9

He has looked dominant at times and should probably be given a chance to start.

    Seattle-version of Seager retiring....

...makes me wonder if the Astros just feast on a really weak division since 2017... not complaining.

We've consistently beaten the best teams in baseball, regardless of division. The 18 and 19 teams were historically loaded. We fell off a little last season given all the talent we lost, but still projected for 100 wins.

The division certainly has been pretty mediocre over that stretch, but still no worse than the central. Oakland has been a pretty damn good club that was simply overshadowed by us. Had we been in the east 17-19, we still would have won that division every year, maybe not last year though.

    Hopefully these hires are great.

I'm guessing Click and Powers have a common background from Tampa.
