Goodrum has an option left so easily sent to AAA if there's no roster spot. Diaz could be traded but likely same role as last year. Could start with Goodrum if Carlos is not resigned and the team wants Pena to get further AAA seasoning. Pena will start the year in AAA or traded if( when?) Correa is resigned.
I think that if Correa signs for more than 2 yrs and does not have an opt out after year 1 or 2 then Pena should be traded.
Doubtful. If they didn’t trade him he would start this season in AAA then come up as needed to fill in as an infielder. Could be a super sub filling in Diaz’s role after this season.
Probably not the best word but the last few times these guys have been available I can't recall the Astros being involved in any conversations. We lost Graveman so McHugh would have been a nice add as a proven Bullpen arm. McHugh's wife spends more time on Astros twitter.
We don't know if they did or didn't try and engage him in negotiations. They are pretty good at keeping things close to the vest.
MARCH 15: Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic says that the Astros plan on making Correa a new offer “shortly.” He adds that the rumors are “creating buzz in camp” and quotes a source as saying “Players can’t stop talking about it.”
Plan B for Correa: Hosmer? According to bleacher report the Padres are willing to move robert hassell their top prospect to unload his 4 years 60 million... Hosmer to 1st, Yuli to 3rd, Bregman to ss for a year? Then reasses yuli/hosmer after that... Hassell will be a stud cf but is 2 to 3 years away...
Let's play around and see if we can make everything work. 27 2022 $35M Highest paid Shortstop 28 2023 $35M Player Option - Make Boros Happy - doesn't share fee except for 1 rear. 29 2024 $35M 30 2025 $35M 31 2026 $35M 32 2027 $35M 33 2028 $30M Team Option Make Astros Happy - Limit back end exposure. 34 2029 $30M 35 2030 $30M 36 2031 $30M Potentially $330M 10 Year (More than Seager) Opt Out potential for both sides. Carlos after One year and Astros after Six years. Carlos makes $210M over 6 years if he stays and Astros exercise option when he's 33. Borrow from Verlander and make the player option conditional. Make the Team Option a buyout. I mean, things can be adjusted to make it work. He just needs to average about 3.5 WAR per year, injured or not, to earn it. Even with just 2 of 7 healthy seasons, he's averaged just under 5 WAR per year.
