Jose Urena signed with the Tigers for 1 year 3.25 million. Would have been nice to see what Strom could have done with him.... https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/12/tigers-jose-urena-agree-to-deal.html
Well, it would be an upgrade. Last year Garneau put up a stellar -0.3 WAR Castro had a mighty -0.2 WAR
Does nothing for me, zero... would be just as happy with some 30 year old AAA catcher claimed off waivers. Castro is useless.
Click has significantly more financial restraints than Luhnow did, and a sidelined ace earing 30 million. I know fans don't want to hear such unpleasant reality, but that's what it is. When you factor in Verlanders dead money, were probably talking 60 million less to field a good team.
Not concerned really. Our needs line up with the market. We need outfielders, a solid bullpen addition, rotation depth, and a backup catcher. Market has lots of those. Alvarez will replace the offense we lose from Springer. I hope we can at least bring back Brantley. Then if the person we put in CF can outperform what Reddick gave us we are good to go.
Castro could throw left-handed and hit right-handed and I guarantee he's a better backup than Garneau.
“Castro strikes out looking, has words for the home plate ump. Castro not happy with that call. Astros strand two as we head to the top of the 7th inning.”
I really like the Astros signing Castro assuming it’s a cheap 1 or 2 year deal. He strikes out too much but hits for some power and is a good defender. The fact that he’s a good platoon fit for Maldy is a bonus. He’s still a borderline starting quality catcher and a meaningful upgrade over Stubbs.
Castro looks to be likely a decent fit. His EVs have skyrocketed the past couple of seasons without much to show for it.
And the pitch is often inarguably a strike. It was so absurd toward the end I thought he was just trolling. Pretty much indifferent to the signing. He is probably safer than running an unproven AAA catcher out there, but doubt he gives us much more than that.
Fire up the reunion tour: Grossman, Hernandez, Happ, Melancon all make some measure of sense for the Astros.
