Basically, 2 years at 2020 prices with a team option for a 3rd at a reasonable rate if he is still pitching well and $/WAR recovers. Very good deal by the Royals. There is a good chance Minor is still a good pitcher next season and the money isn't a big risk. Smart deal by Minor as there is a decent chance he falls apart or CBA dramatically affects his FA chances going forward such that he scored himself an extra $6M that he might not get otherwise ($6M in the hand is worth more than $12M in the bush).
In the ALDS, Minor was the only A's pitcher other than Hendricks who was effective against the Stros. Low key a pretty big loss to our main division rival.
100%. I’m curious to see what OAK does this offseason. I wonder if they would seriously consider moving Chapman for a massive haul. They’re set to lose Semien and a good chunk of their arms I believe. Maybe they entertain some modicum of a slight rebuild, or perhaps retooling.
The A's always try to adapt to get value other teams aren't prioritizing. Though, if Beane ends up part owner of Red Sox through merger, I assume that will hurt them somewhat even if his minions remain.
Rosario cleared waivers. He was likely going to get about $10M which would have been right at about $5M/WAR assuming a 2 WAR projection. This does not look good for mid tier FA position players.
He was the consensus number one for most of the lead up to the 2014 draft, but he wasn't consensus by draft day. We went with Aiken instead, and after the UCL debacle there was a lot of what iffing about Rodon. Eventually the mess turned into Bregman. Always funny looking back on how things play out. We also easily could have had a Kris Bryant, Correa, Altuve, Bregman infield, which could very well have been the best infield in baseball history. The Mazara DFA is a little odd, this was his first outright bad season and it could easily be written off to Covid weirdness. He's still only 25, could be a pretty high reward type pickup.
Not sure if it's confirmed but apparently Cubs non tendered Kyle Schwarber and Albert Almora Jr. Also other players non tendered were Brian Goodwin and Adam Duvall. Any interest in any of those players?
I'm a big Schwarber fan, I'd love for him to be our full-time LFer. I didn't realize his batting average has been historically so low during his career, but he provides a ton of power from the left, and if he could improve his career OPS a little, up to .850, he'd be a great addition. And he's only 27 (will be 28) next season, so his prime is still possibly ahead of him.
I feel like David Dahl is a guy who can hit .300 with 20+ homers in a full season. I’ve always liked his bat, although he struggled during the Covid shortened season( a lot of guys did). He’s also had some bad breaks with injuries. But when right, he’s a solid left handed bat. Only downside is he’s a corner guy and we need a CF but if we lose Brantley I’d feel pretty good about a Dahl, Almora, Tucker OF with Yordan at DH
