He’s the kind of head case I’d hope the Dodgers would spend on. Dodgers/Padres is gonna be fun to watch
He's only had his 4S spin rate up for 2020 and last bit in 2019. If people aren't going to check him for sticky stuff, He obviously is a much improved pitcher.
To a lesser extent, this is the sort of deal Correa and the Astros should be working on. Not the dumb 10 year deals that actually could short-change the very best of the best.... but younger players should put themselves in position to get TWO huge contracts, not just one.
I love that he was so vocal about that **** and openly taking shots at Cole only to do the same thing in a contract year. So on brand for that little turd.
Bauer to the Dodgers is great for Houston. $45M/yr is crazy for any pitcher simply due to injury risk, but he will also be a detriment for PR and their clubhouse. I will be shocked if that turns out to be a good deal for the team. Kudos to Bauer and his agent for securing that kind of 2 year commitment.
Astros staff would be wrecked if MLB cracked down on substances. Though, I think offenses built on contact and plate discipline would be the greatest benefactors.
Eh - $45MM/yr is not all that crazy for a 2 year deal. If someone could have signed Cole to a 2 year deal, he'd have gotten more than this. All these elite pitchers would get $40MM-ish if they didn't sign long-term year deals. Bauer has always said he wanted to go year-to-year for this exact reason. If he keeps performing, he'll get paid more than the Gerrit Coles of the world, but he trades away security if he sucks.
Oh I agree, I don’t think it’s crazy because it’s unrealistic (agree Cole could have demanded more over the same period), I think it’s crazy because it’s a really bad allocation of resources, especially over a 2 year period (I could understand it more over 3 or 4 years). The odds of a pitcher getting hurt are just too high.
Interesting to see both Springer and Bauer do really well in this market. Maybe the financial concern from these owners is not as ghostly and mortifying as they’ve lead on. Interesting, too, to see NYM miss out on both Springer and Bauer, when many had NYM pegged for one and/or both. Cant blame NYM with the final bags both were able to secure, and they will in all likelihood extend Lindor who was a big get. I think Bauer has a high flame out rate...I don’t see this as a slam dunk deal for LAD. Man, SDP/LAD is going to be fun to watch from afar. Hopefully LAD reverts back to their choking ways...would hate to see Tyler put up crooked numbers in LA More importantly...Bregman put on 27lbs?? After the “sour taste from last year”? Whoa. LOVE to see it. Get your MVP bets in on him now. People are complaining about Baez vs Castro vs Avila vs other small claims that Click has done, but none of those transactions are going to win or lose us the pennant. We’re winning the pennant on moves like Bregman getting yolked, Air 44 returning, Tucker’s continued growth, etc. This team is set up really well even if we have a few holes. The name of the game is getting to the postseason...and letting our squad wreck havoc from there. This off-season is setting up well for HOU. AL West remaining meh is great.
I think this is a good deal for the Braves, but I am surprised that they went 4 years. It seems things are winding down. Hoping the Astros pick up a couple flyers on minor league deals that can be added once spring training starts and 40 man positions become available
I wonder if the Dodgers try and dump Price now. He is owed 32 million a year the next 2 seasons but the Red Sox are paying half of it. So the Dodgers are on the hook for 16 million per year. If they ate half of that I bet someone takes a flyer on Price for 2 years at 8 million a year.
Right now, supposedly the Dodgers after adding Bauer at 40 million this year have gone tens of millions over the tax line but only have a tax bill of $7 million. They have to sign Turner and that will increase their tax bill some. However it isn’t anything insane. The point being they don’t have to trade him. Having said that, the demise of David Price is grossly exaggerated. I would be ecstatic if the Astros got him for 8 million. If he gets innings next year in the rotation, he will produce like a 1-3 starter and possibly better.
