Unfortunately we switched out of the revenue sharing group of teams. That means instead of being after the first round our compensation pick will be after the 2nd round around pick 75-80

Yes. I believe it is a pick sandwiched between the first and second rounds since keuchel will fall into the top tier of free agents. I also believe the astros FO may know something about mortons shoulder durability...if he were 100% I believe he would have received a QO.

Mainly just think it's a stupid name. Marwin's been huge for the Astros and I do want him back. Will never forget the Game 2 homer. If he doesn't come back though I won't miss him stepping out of the box after every pitch.

Pretty important distinction here. The Kieboom listed in the article was Spencer, not Carter. Carter is a top prospect, Spencer might be a decent backup catcher.

Read the bottom tweet by Heyman. He says Robles OR possibly Kieboom. No way it is OR if it was the catcher. Then he says Marlins wanted both.

Another links proving Marlins said the offer STARTS with both top two prospects... Robles and Carter Kieboom and not Spencer.

Read the articles again. The Marlins never said no to an offer of Carter Kieboom and Robles. The first article says the Nationals offered Spencer Kieboom and Robles
The Heyman tweet is saying the Nationals were willing to offer either Carter Kieboom or Robles, but the Marlins said no.

No where in those links does it say the Marlins rejected Carter and Robles. Now sure they can still ask for Alvarez, Tucker, etc but just like before Realmuto will simply stick with the Marlins until he walks and they get nothing. Just saying that they never rejected Carter and Robles

Yes. It appears the Marlins did not say no to Carter and Robles but the Nationals did. The stories seem to be all over with the facts. One tweet from Frisaro (Marlins beat reporter) says a deal "starts" with Carter and Robles. Take that ask... apply it to the Astros and you are talking 2 of Whitley, Tucker, and Alvarez.

My main point in bringing this up is a lot of people would post trade ideas about getting Realmuto without giving up Whitley or Tucker. That does not seem realistic at all and most likely it will require 2 top 100 prospects and then some. That's why I would rather sign Ramos than give up that level prospects for a catcher. If we are trading Whitley, Tucker, or Alvarez I would rather do it for a pitcher like Kluber, Carassco, etc.

    Here's my thing.
    Kluber and Corrasco are available.

Try to nab 1 or both of them...

As long as Whitley, Tucker and Alonso in those deals ur golden.

But I would sacrifice Tucker in a J.T.R. trade.
I'm sure you could be ok with out.

    S. Perez would be cheaper in prospects yes. And could be another direction.

Andrew Miller, Daniel Murphy Gerardo Parra and a Reliever would be targets

I don’t think Kluber or Carrasco are actually available. The Indians would need a ridiculous return to justify blowing up a team that is a big division favorite. I realize they need an entire outfield and bullpen and don’t have any money. But the answer there is salary dumping Encarnación and filling the OF with Jay/Granderson types and the bullpen with Sipp types who all cost <$5M each.

To me it wouldnt matter try for 1of them.

I wouldnt mind try to do a deal for both S.Perez and Danny Duffy???
But of course there needs to be money coming in this deal.
Like 16m in the Duffy deal.
And hope and pray for Strom to fix his issues.

I would still look at Marcus Stroman aswell.

Salvador Perez should be cheaper in prospects, but I have very little faith that the Royals will value Perez the same way any other team would. Moore would probably say something about him being a winner and being clutch then ask for Bregman and Correa or something.

Fangraphs 2019 Steamer projections are out. Bouncing those against free agent contract predictions, the 3 guys I think Houston should sign are:

    C Wilson Ramos
    DH Nelson Cruz
    SP JA Happ

That’d give them an opening day roster of:
    C Ramos 3*

    1B White 1
    2B Altuve 4
    SS Correa 5
    3B Bregman 5
    RF Reddick 2
    CF Springer 4
    LF Tucker 2
    DH Cruz 2.4*
    IF Gurriel 1
    C Stassi 1.5
    OF Kemp 0.5
    31.5

    SP Verlander 5
    SP Cole 4.5
    SP Happ 3.5*
    SP Valdez 1
    SP James 2
    RP McHugh 1
    RP Peacock 1
    RP Devenski 0
    RP Smith 0
    RP Harris 0.5
    RP Rondon 0.5
    RP Pressly 1
    RP Osuna 1
    21
    52.5

The projections for Devenski/Harris/Smith/Rondon might make some bullpen shuffling make sense.

Using salary projections from MLBTraderumors Ramos is 12 million per year, Happ is 16 million per year, and Cruz is 15 million per year. I don't know if the Astros are going to add 43 million in payroll via free agency. They have nearly 20 million added payroll in arbitration increases and raises.

I expect the Astros to add at least one piece via trade.

The Astros free agents (and Singleton!) Represent ~55M in salary from last year. Assuming that is the FA budget from the MLBTR list I'd go:

    Wilson Ramos 3x36
    Nelson Cruz 2x30
    Zach Britton 3x33
    Gio Gonzalez 2x24
    Martin Moldanado 2x8

So you expect the Astros to add about 20 million in payroll? You aren't figuring in the arbitration raises at all. Correa and Cole add an additional 10 million in payroll with their estimated raises. That doesn't include raises for McHugh, Peacock, McCullers, Osuna, Pressly, etc.

Yes. That should be a reasonable payroll increase.
