I don't see it happening. Honestly, the way these contracts for arbitration eligible players are going it could be bad news for the Astros. Correa's number is really important for beyond just this upcoming season. Lindor signed for over 10 million. Obviously, Correa won't get that much with his down year last year, but the Lindor number could be what Bregman gets in 2020 if he puts up another year like he did last season. That means Bregman and Altuve could cost the Astros about 20 million dollars more in 2020 than 2019. That eats up all the cap room created by Verlander leaving. Then the raises for Springer, Correa, Peacock, McCullers,Osuna, etc. Even with all the free agents leaving next year we won't be that flush with cash to replace all the pitching we are losing. Better hope these young guys become solid players.
The Astros have maintained their file-and-trial approach several times by agreeing to different deals, Marwin, Gattis, and Harris all agreed to 1 year plus a team option, and Springer had his 2 year deal flat rate deal, but I strongly suspect Correa and Cole will go to hearings. Devenski probably has the best shot at coming to a compromise.
LeMahieu is a classic Coors adjusted player. I have zero concerns about this signing...what an overspend
All reports are indicating that the Yankees are essentially out of the running for both. They weren’t ever really in on Harper and now that they signed LeMahieu they’re essentially out on Machado.
Was just about to post this. Oswalt likely doesn’t deserve to be in the Hall of Fame, but he absolutely should not be off the ballot after one year. He was dominant for an entire decade. That alone, combined with his postseason success, should be enough to keep him on the ballot for at least a few years. It’s looking like he’ll probably be off after this year, though.
I hope they can get this thing settled, and I also hope this doesn't damage his relationship with the Astros. $11.425M seemed low given his performance, $13M sounds about right to me.
Brian Kenny has always been a great supporter of everything Astros. Of course, hes looking at Roys numbers objectively and makes strong points.
MLB Network said a few days ago Machado was down to the Phillies & White Sox. This move I think confirms Yanks are out on him. Guess on Harper would be Phillies, Dodgers, Nats, MAYBE Astros
Not long enough of a career. Would have Rivera, Clemens, Mussina, Pettitte, Roy Halloday ahead of him on picking a 10 player ballot
I’ve never thought Oswalt or Berkman would get in. But they both deserve at least the threshold to stay on the ballot. It’s not like they’re Jim Deshaies.
Would be tough with Rivera, Clemens, Bonds, Sosa, M. Ramirez, Mussina, E. Martinez, Halladay, Helton, L. Walker, Pettitte, etc on the ballot
