He's not a free agent. The Marlins cheap organization never expected to re-sign him, so saying he won't re-sign doesn't really mean anything. Lord knows the Marlins don't need an incentive to trade their best players.
I don't think the Astros will or should meet the Marlin's price for Realmuto. I would rather sign WIlson Ramos and use our prospects to trade for a starter if anything. 3/5 of our rotation could be gone with Keuchel unlikely to be resigned, Morton a free agent, and then the rumors swirling around McCullers' needing Tommy John surgery. Plus, after next season our 2 aces are also free agents. I don't think the Astros can afford to give up their premium pitching prospects for a catcher. We either need them to be good in the Astros rotation or trade them to get more starting pitching. Ramos can't receive a qualifying offer since he was traded last year so he won't cost any draft compensation. He fills a need as a solid bat and plays catcher. Everyone keeps talking about needing a big bat. While I don't disagree, the biggest bats we can add next season are a healthy Altuve, Correa, and Springer. All 3 had down years and we still made it to the ALCS.
I get that he's the best catcher in baseball, but it's not really a high bar these days. I'd rather they go after Grandal or Ramos.
I believe Gerardo Parra has Officially made the Astros Radar. Also believe the Astros have to be the winners of a J.T.Realmuto trade
Gerardo Parra? Like, career 89 wRC+ who was replacement level in 2018 Gerardo Parra? If you’re not joking or under 15 years old, I feel sorry for you.
You dont see the coaching times to Parra? He hits for average and is a decent fielder. Are u seriously thinking the Astros woudlnt look at him with his ties to them???
He doesn't bring anything that improves the team. He hits for a decent average (.284 this season and .279 for his career) but he has little to no power, doesn't get on base enough (career .325), and doesn't steal bases when he does get on. He is the very definition of an average player. I'd rather take chances on Tucker or any of the already in-house options for LF.
He should have been traded last offseason. Realmuto is pissed Stanton, Ozuna, and Yelich were able to get out and he got stuck like chuck last season.
Odd that they rostered Gustave all last season only to outright him now. I assume he had a setback in his recovery.
Got to watch Lance McCullers and Carlos Correa's twitch stream last night playing Fortnight. LOL. They were fairly interactive with us, but no baseball talk.
They're both basically going through their college years right now... as neither actually went to college.
https://fancredsports.com/Articles/inside-baseball-predicting-the-deals-for-131-of 3) Dallas Keuchel, SP: The past Cy Young winner turned down some long deals while in Houston, and there’s a suspicion he wouldn’t mind going to an even bigger market, like L.A. or N.Y.C. (the Yankees are looking for starters), perhaps. Expert: 5 years, $21M per, $105M. Me: 5 years, $19M, $95M. 11) Marwin Gonzalez, INF-OF: Word has been that the Astros probably won’t give him a qualifying offer, which would change the equation. Ben Zobrist is certainly a comp for extreme versatility, and Gonzalez can he even play shortstop in a pinch. Expert: 4 years, $14M per, $56M. Me: 4 years, $13M, $52M. 25) Martin Maldonado, C: His defensive prowess is well known, though like a few others had a slip or two in the postseason. Expert: 3 years, $8.75M, 26.25M. Me: 2 years, $8M per, $16M. 36) Charlie Morton, SP: He became an All-Star in Houston. The Astros could give him the qualifying offer, which he’d presumably accept since he’s said he may only want to play one more year. 1 year, $17 M. Me: $17.9M QO. 48) Tony Sipp, RP: He was one of the more overpaid players in Houston. Expert: 2 years, $5 M per, $10. Me: 2 years, $5M per, $10M. 66) Brian McCann, C: Veteran catcher should get a deal expert 6M 1 year me 7M 1 year 70) Evan Gattis, DH-C: Power threat will get work. Expert: 1 year, $5.5 M. Me: $5M, 1 year.
I will be shocked if Marwin gets $50M+. $38M/4years is about the max I see him being worth, so I could see a team going a little higher. if he does get $50M, I hope it’s not from the Astros. The other estimates look about right to me.
