I bought some tix to the Red Sox series. I wanna see that lineup in person, so I can tell my grandkids about it one day.
I tried to find pics but couldn't but in yesterday's paper they had a before and after pics of Jiovanni Mier from 09 to now and all I got to say is dang. They made him put on 20 pounds of muscle. He now looks like a 1st baseman then he does a shortstop. Wasn't his strengths was defense and speed? They wanted him to keep his speed and develop power. He wasn't ever known for his power so why would they want him to pack that much weight so fast? Most shortstop I see is pretty skinny. This is probably one of the reasons why our player development suck. Link
He is still around the right size for a SS. Obviously his body is still maturing and progressing. I'm sure the staff knows what they are doing and it sounds like only positives are coming from his bulk-up. Hopefully he can maximize his potential.
Adam Wainwright hurt his elbow this morning. Early word not good for Cardinals. Looks like he may have TJS
http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/rodrial01.shtml That guy was a pretty good shortstop at 6-3, 230. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/j/jeterde01.shtml http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/r/renteed01.shtml Those guys were both 6-2 or so and 200 pounds. Pretty much where Mier is now. And did you not read the article? The guy was already pretty light, and had trouble keeping on weight. It's not surprising he'd go into the season packing on a few more pounds to prepare for the grind. He's 19. It's not all that unusual for athletes at his age.
Projected Red Sox 2011 Lineup 1. Jacoby Ellsbury (CF) 2. Carl Crawford (LF) 3. Dustin Pedroia (2B) 4. Adrian Gonzalez (1B) 5. Kevin Youkilis (3B) 6. David Ortiz (DH) 7. J.D. Drew (RF) 8. Jarrod Saltalamacchia (C) 9. Marco Scutaro (SS) Mike Cameron is the 4th OF.
ESPN crawl is saying that Wainwright has left Cardinals camp with a serious elbow tendon injury....for whatever that's worth.
