yeah, i didn't mean my post to be argumentative...i was seriously asking. and you're right, ensberg is a good example...though his problems always SEEMED more mental than physical (getting older) to me.
Keppinger is solid contact hitter but this team needs more homerun and run producing from that spot because they probably won’t get a lot of power from 1st baseman which is usually a power hitting position. Keppinger is probably going get around $3 million in arbitration which this team can’t afford to pay a utility player so he will be moved.
The way I look at it that Clint Barmes and Bill Hall are probably an upgrade over the Angel Sanchez/Tommy Manzella and Jeff Keppinger combination from last year in terms of offense and defense. If Barmes and/or Hall suck, then you move them at the deadline. It will be easy to move either of them since they are both versatile and will be free agents in 2011. It’s not like the Astros have top prospects at the middle infield positions that Hall and Barmes are slowing the development of so I understand the moves.
Astros and Yankees are talking about a deal involving Keppinger. If we don't get a top prospect in return, I am going to be steaming mad.
Top prospect for Keppinger? Dream on. He is 30 years old and due a raise in arbitration which hurts his value as well. He is a solid player but is best suited as a utility player. Astros probably could get a decent mid level prospect for him.
Yea, I think Lindstrom might get you a better prospect but neither will break the bank. I could go for a nice AA starting pitcher or Single A prospect with upside.
Considering we gave up a prospect who hit 22 homeruns for the Reds last year to acquire Keppinger we better get the same in return or not make a deal.
You are confusing Drew Sutton, who we traded, with Drew Stubbs who was drafted by the Reds and has spent his entire career in their organization.
Buster Olney: The Astros were very much in on Orlando Hudson before he chose San Diego and they signed Bill Hall.
He was possibly confused because we originally drafted Stubbs out of HS (3rd round I think?), but didn't sign him.
The difference, IMO, between the Feliz deal and this one is Chris Johnson. There is no one in waiting at 2B any time in the near future. No, they didn't know out of spring training that CJ would have that kind of season. He wasn't really showing it before he was injured. This is a cheaper deal for a player that can hit with some power (more than Feliz) and play multiple positions if necessary. For the price, I think it's a great deal.
If I where Ed Wade, I'd be on the phone with Brian Cashman and asking for two top prospects in exchange for Wandy Rodriguez. As good to great as Greinke has been the last three seasons, Wandy has put up comparable numbers and is left handed. Edit - Wandy is older and a potential FAgent next season which probably limits Wade from asking for a king's ransom.
