He also has the most years left under club control... and has been one of the healthiest. Why trade him while he's in his physical peak?
Altuve will be the clear alpha in that dynamic. His opening press conference should include why his OPS dropped by .246 after MLB started to crack down on sign stealing.
So for 40-45 mil you could possibly add Walker/Palanco and trade for Robert. If Bregs walks sign me up for this.
If Bregman walks and they get Walker and Robert, then that takes a lot of pressure off of 3b. It would make a Polanco deal reasonable. Or they could focus on LF like Winker for instance. Then let Dubon, Kessinger, Dezenzo, Whitcomb share 3b as there won't be as much offensive pressure with 3 other spots improved.
It's boring but exactly what I expected. They will do nothing until Bregman signs because that will determine what they have to spend on others. Why spend on a tier 4 FA filling a spot that will no longer be available if they could get a tier 2 guy? And Bregman isn't signing until Soto does, because the teams who miss out on Soto will significantly improve his market and raise his potential contract. So, like it or not, nothing will get done until Soto signs - and it's the right move. What I don't want is the team to sign a guy like Santana today, then miss out on Bregman tomorrow and not have a 1b roster spot eventhough they have the money for Walker.
But the Astros are not giving up and moving on until/unless he signs somewhere else. So they are not going to bring anyone else in until that happens, either.
