wRC+ vs RHP/vs LHP: 2024 (career) Diaz: 113/127 (127/103) Caratini: 107/136 (89/88) Singleton: 124/30 (86/95) Dezenzo: 131/-8 better vs RHP in minors too Altuve: 110/179 (123/149) Pena: 90/130 (88/132) Whitcomb: 120/-1 pretty even in minors Dubon: 89/80 (76/111) McCormick: 69/60 (96/142) Meyers: 72/119 (76/114) Trammell. (104/19) Tucker: 202/143 (142/132) Alvarez: 157/190 (167/166) Notes Diaz, Altuve, Tucker, and Alvarez are productive vs both L and RHP and should be playing everyday. Caratini probably overachieved in 2024 and should not be counted on as a regular 1b option, even vs LHP. His numbers are fine for a catcher though. Dubon is a bad fit as the backup for Pena, Meyers, and McCormick because they are all weak vs RHP and strong vs LHP. Speed and defense are the only reasons for Pena and Meyers to be starting vs RHP and that is only good enough with above average run production at (at least most of) the other 7 spots. Chas is not good enough to start in LF (even before 2024) vs RHP but would be OK in CF if his defense doesn't fall off. As long as he can recover back to career norms. Dezenzo and Whitcomb showed enough in small sample to have hope, but Zach is probably not a good platoon partner for Singleton. FYI: Bregman is a PERFECT fit on this roster as it is currently constructed. Alex: 125/100 (134/136)
The more I monitor this thread, the more I get the vibe that the Astros are simply too capped to significantly improve the team through additions and will ultimately either be moving laterally, or outright subtracting from their championship-era core as the decline continues with a slight chance of an outright rebuild starting THIS off-season trading away talent for prospects (of course, this course of action should’ve already started by trading Bregman at the trade deadline if that’s the case)
I think they are still solidly in a spot that they need to try to compete. With Diaz, Altuve, Alvarez, Tucker, Framber, Hunter, Hader, and Abreu this team has 8 legitimate All Star caliber players. Pena, McCormick, Meyers, and Pressly are very good complimentary players who can he positives with the right role and expectation. Blanco, and Arrighetti are coming off excellent initial seasons in the rotation. McCullers, Javier, and Garcia have at least MOR talent and would be a huge benefit if/When healthy. That roster is too deep and talented to simply give up before the season begins, but too glared to be a legitimate contender. It's much closer to competing than not, though. With Framber, Tucker, and Pressly gone, and McCormick, Dubon, Garcia, and Abreu entering their final (and most expensive) arbitration season in 2026, that may be a time to tear it down. To avoid that, 3+ guys need to either be brought in or take a big step up.
It's cool, in a few years we can bring back an aging Springer and injured Correa along with giving Keuchel, Marwin and Yuli a go and we got the band back together for another run. Right?
The Rockies actually made what I think is a decent move for once. They signed Kyle Farmer for $3.25M/1yr. That’s a pretty good value for a guy who hits lefties well and can play all over the infield. At that price I wouldn’t have minded him as a bench piece to pair at 1B with Singleton.
You're not winning a championship with Singleton getting that much playing time.Walker's numbers are skewed because he was injured for much of the season.
I could get on board with re-signing Bregs, trading for Lowe and McCarthy and calling it a day. They've got the money to do this.
I dare to say that we will not see the World Series for at least a decade, and definitely "after" we retool
I think if Bregman is resigned and they trade for Lowe and Robert, then a Singleton+ Dezenzo or Whitcomb platoon would be fine with me.
