I’m weaving MacT’s comments thru the filter of some other info/rumors we’ve seen. The “this will be Pressly’s last year with the Astros” comment was senseless if there weren’t negative undertones around him. But it’s all conjecture on my part.
Stop it. Diaz is the catcher. They are attempting to free up more money so they can pursue a bat and arm in free agency and still try to address a second bat through trade. They can try and add Walker or Yandy Diaz to play 1st and have very good production from 1st and catcher… without moving Diaz out from behind the plate.
I hope it looks a whole lot different than that, this offseason needs to make some changes. Winter Meetings will be fun to follow.
Vlad, Raley, N.Lowe, Yandy Diaz, O'Hearn, and Naylor had higher wRC+ and Turner was tied, among players in the AL w/ 400+ PAs and played a significant amount of 1b. ( Santander only played 1 game at 1b) Tied for 7 out of 15 teams. Pretty average. He was tied for 1st among catchers.
Sure, but Diaz would be second among first baseman in ops+ on the road against right handed pitchers in day games. Just keep coming up with whatever criteria to match your point. Why stop at 400? Why not 300? 500? This petty garbage is over. Adding you to the block list. It's clear you're not being sincere.
O K ? have no idea what was wrong with my post but I'm not losing any sleep over being blocked. I don't post here for you. I chose 400 because that narrowed it down to 16 players. It was the closest to a round number and 1 player per team. 300=21 500=12 400 felt right. I still hope you have a good day.
Damn PS5 is actually a reality for that franchise. Only a matter of time before Skenes is a dodger as well.
They do, especially if they clear $20M by trading Pressly and Caratini but that leaves Dubin/Dezenzo/Whitcomb at 3b. I think a 3b must be #1 priority. Plan #1 sign/trade for a 3b expected to start 2+ years. Sign a 1 yr stopgap like Goldschmidt or Santana to platoon w/ Singleton at 1b. Play Dezenzo everyday at 1b in Sugar Land hoping he takes over in 2026. Plan #2 sign/trade for a veteran stopgap like Moncada or Suarez to a 1 yr deal at 3b. Hopefully that means they sign Walker. Have Dezenzo play 50/50 at 3b/1b and Matthews 50/50 at 3b/SS in Sugar Land and hope one of them can take over 3b in 2026. That still should leave money to pay Robert and bring in a LH hitting LF like Winker, Canha, Gamel, or Heyward (and several others) to platoon w/ Meyers/Chas, Whitcomb, or Leon. If they trade for Robert then Chas or Meyers should be traded. If Leon wins the weak side platoon/4th OF spot then both can be traded. I am excited to see what Whitcomb can do If given 300+ PAs in LF but since he can't (shouldn't) play CF or RF that would reduce bench versatility, especially if Singleton is platooning w/ a 1b only guy like Santana.
Go with Dezenzo and hope he is the answer at 3B. If he isn't the answer then hope Matthews is ready or trade for a vet 3B at the trade deadline.
I think the chances of Dezenzo being ready for MLB at all, much less an everyday starting spot are extremely small. I do have hope for him as a future starter at either 3b or 1b, but he simply needs more time in AAA. Less than 375 PAs in AA between 2 seasons, then only 113 PAs in AAA before being promoted. Then struck out in over 1/3 of his PAs in MLB. Give him 1/2-1 more year in Sugar Land to built a foundation for success at MLB level. Matthews is at least a year, probably further, behind Dezenzo. We saw in 2024 what waiting until the deadline to fill a starting position spot resulted in. How many starting level 3b may be available? What would the cost be? How much of a hole will there be from not addressing it before the season?
