There may be a learning curve but I’m confident he’d be an adequate corner OF and potentially end up very good; he’s a plus plus athlete. He was playing mostly OF in the Puerto Rican league last month.
I love the idea of a one ear prove it deal. If it doesn't work out we will cut off your ear! Anybody willing to sign that deal would at least be entertaining.
It's all about avoid the tax threshold, and when you have a backup just as good as the starter why not utilize it?
With Brown having overlap with that 2021 Braves front office, wouldn’t be a shock to see him go after Pederson or Duvall.
Move Pressly and Caratini, that along with the 12 mil saved will get you to 32 mil. That should allow a guy like Robert to be traded for and they could add a guy like Winker also. Depends on what they do with Framber but I think they should invest in pitching more than Winker.
Can somebody check my math? Did Brown (who I dislike more every day) credibly replace our star third baseman and add a star first baseman for less money than it would have cost to retain our existing third baseman? Evan I can't complain too much about that.
Dollar for dollar yes Paredes + Walker will very likely make less than Bregman will. But Brown also gave up Tucker and a 2nd round pick. That’s not to say I don’t like the moves, but it’s not a black and white money issue.
Salazar is an underrated young player in Houston’s org. Very good report with pitchers, very good overall defensively, doesn’t strike out much, offers a lefty bat off the bench, can also play 1B/2B. To me he’s basically Dubon if Dubon was a plus defensive catcher.
In the end no matter what you give up in a trade for Robert you end up with Robert. So the short answer is no, you can not win in a trade for Robert.
Interesting, I take it you don't like him. It's true he had a bad season last year on an embarrassment of a team with absolutely no protection in the lineup....who would you prefer? Jake Meyers?
8 games. As an aside, Astros great Glenn Davis played RF in 1985 of 8/9 games ... had a 1.000% fielding percentage. I was at one of those 8 games he started ... sitting in the RF stands in the Dome ... and it was no glass of merlot ... bad jumps, slow, noddle arm. I might have even shouted a few unkind words Glenn's way If the Astros want Dezenzo to be their future MLB RF, they should start him in SL and let him get 100 games in RF under his belt.
I wouldn't look at present WAR models. I would bet on Robert becoming a top 15-20 type player in MLB. What the cost of a trade would be, I've got no idea. But 3 years of Robert/Walker/Parades at approximately 45 mil per year total should be really appealing to everybody.
It's a no brainer to me at his salary, unless the cost is just outrageous. It would make us strong contenders over the next 3 seasons with just a little luck with one of our prospects (Cam Smith, Matthews, Dicenzo?). It also doesn't kill us financially.
