I believe he’s been attacking the zone and trying to go deeper into games. His velocity hasn’t declined. There’s no chance we are signing him though anyway.
Lol the definition of a spoiled and entitled fan. 20+ other fanbases would kill to be in our position. Get a grip.
Profar or Verdugo. I want em both and Bregman. Altuve Bregman Alvarez Diaz Profar Paredes Pena Verdugo Dubon
No idea honestly. I can tell you that the Astros are trying to balance Framber’s ego - they made it clear in public and to Framber they are not actively trying to trade him …. But they are also listening to offers but cost would be very high. Red Sox and Padres have discussed deals for Framber. I don’t think the Astros are signing Burnes - but wanted to see price range. Signing Burnes would allow the Astros to trade pitching for bats.
Per Spotrac FA OF in 2024 bWAR order (wRC+ vs RHP) Teoscar Hernandez (126) Jurickson Profar. (137) Anthony Santander (132) Randal Grichuk (116) Jesse Winker (124) Harrison Bader (93) Max Kepler (92) Michael A. Taylor (41) Jason Heyward (101) Alex Verdugo (87) Connor Joe (88) Mark Canha (94) Travis Jankowski (59) Austin Hays (61) Whit Merrifield (83) Kevin Pillar (54) Tommy Pham (91) Ben Gamel (114) Ramon Laureano (92) Robbie Grossman (53) Eloy Jimenez (84) Aaron Hicks (2) Manuel Margot (54) Gavin Sheets (94) Dylan Carlson (57) Adam Duvall (12) The top 3 are the only options to be regular starters. Grichuk literally had his career year at age 32 and it was in only 279 PAs. He has a career 93 vsRHP. Winker is really the only guy who projects as platoon starter and is coming off a solid season vs RHP. Kepler and Verdugo both have good career numbers vs RHP and are solid bets for a bounce back. Heyward and Gamel are better suited to be 5th OF/PH than looking to start 70% of games. Canha is much better vs LHP, so would be more of an option as a platoon partner for Big Jon at 1b. The rest are probably not worth the time it takes to talk about them.
OF potentially available in trade who hit RHP (2024 wRC+ vsRHP) Christian Yelich (153) Pavin Smith (148) Byron Buxton (140) Bryan Reynolds (126) Wilyer Abreu (126) Brendan Donovan (126) Cedric Mullins (121) Brandon Marsh (120) Jesus Sanchez (118) Jake McCarthy (115) Mike Yastrzemski (110) Taylor Ward (102) Jake Fraley (102) Kris Bryant (101)
If Dana trades for Arenado hopefully he gets the Cards to pay down another 5 mil. I'm really not in the trade for Arenado camp, but there will have been worse deals made by the Stros.
Depending on what happens with Framber I wouldn't say the Yankees have a better rotation. Fried having forearm issues doesn't bode well for that signing.
Honestly don't hate just signing Grichuk and Winker. Grichuk is a local kid and has always hit LHP well in his career - .833 OPS against them. Winker has a .788 OPS in his career against RHP.
The Astros are playing the 1B market correctly. It is deep and there will be decent/good players who end up taking discounts to be guaranteed an everyday job on a legit contender. 5 totally legit everyday 1B available (Walker, Alonso, Goldschmidt, Bell, Santana), and that’s not counting the next tier of guys who would still probably represent an upgrade over Singleton (France, Turner, Rizzo, Canha, Solano). The trade market (Naylor, Lowe, Diaz, others) is also helping.
