Considering his salary is/should be a non-issue, I'd imagine Johnny Tweet got confused when he read Rosenthal say "acquisition cost".
Kind of surprising that salary is an issue. Quintana only makes $7 million this coming year -- a guy like Fiers could be non-tendered or traded for nothing and wipe $4 million. I wonder if the White Sox are trying to duct tape someone to Quintana?
Doesn't make sense unless just a negotiating tactic. You just gave 40 year old Carlos Beltran $16M, you can't afford 7-11M for Quintana?
Clearly that guy doesn't know what he is talking about. Let's not jump on every tweet. His salary is one of the more advantageous reasons to have him.
Melky Cabrera - $15M (2017) José Abreu - first year arb eligible (2017) David Robertson - $12M (2017), $13M (2018) Todd Frazier - third year arb eligible (2017) ???
Quintana isn't as flashy as Sale, but he is extremely close results wise. He's actually had a lower ERA the last 2 seasons, and he never misses a start. He's very Oswalt like. If a Martes and Tucker package got it done, I would do it without consideration, but I imagine the Bregman conundrum is still in play.
I believe the theory is a replacement level team will win 50 games so a total WAR of 49 would out us at 99 wins.
Definitely don't want to trade Bregman and I'm more than sure he won't be dealt. Hope you're right and this gets done soon. Will be one hell of an offseason.
