I think I remember the Astros clinched the central division against the Cubs one time, and the show E.R. was doing this live episode in real time, and the game was playing in the background.
Well for me it'd be game 5 of the '05 NLCS. I got to be on the tv crew for the home games of that series...and for game 5 I got to stand right behind the wall in dead center behind Tal's Hill; I was just a few feet away when Willy T made that spectacular catch up the hill in that game. Such an unbelievable experience I'll never forget... doesn't even matter they lost the game.
I forgot, I was there for RJ's first start in the Astrodome. I had a 20-game season ticket package that year and it just so happened we had the tickets for that night. That place was ELECTRIC that night. I remember hearing about the RJ trade on the radio the day after the trade. I thought is was a joke or something. I went to bed the night before thinking there was NO WAY he ended up in Houston.
Yeah I was 16 and skipped school with a friend to go to that game. I went to playoff games that year but I don't know which ones but I know it wasn't the extra inning loss. I was at RJ first game too. I miss the dome sometimes.
1. Kent's HR 2. Even though the place was only half full the 97 game vs the Cubs that clinched the NL Central. I was sitting in the outfield and we rushed the field. 3. The Unit's first start (place was going freaking nuts) was an atmosphere I have never seen until then in Houston I felt we were "on the baseball map" 4. My trip to Atlanta for the playoffs 04 5. My trip to Atlanta for the playoffs 05 6. All the trips every year to Arlington The trips are really number 1 for everything involved but those first three events are my greatest memories 7. All the times riding my bike up to the dome and buying the 1 dollar ticket and sitting in the outfield getting rowdy
Mainly because I was there, the 05 NLDS vs the Braves. After Berkman hit that grand slam you just had a feeling we were going to finish the comeback. I was at the park for 6 grueling hours, but it was well worth it. I was also in Atlanta when we won our first series in 04. My cousins are huge Braves fans, so I finally got to talk some trash. Also, going down behind the Astros dugout and cheering with the other 20 Astros fans who were at Turner field that night was awesome. The Kent homer and the Bruntlett, Everett, and Berkman double play were also nice.
I wasn't there but I was watching it live when it happened. I could have sworn that it was a stadium day game somewhere for some reason though.
That great stretch in '89 when the Stros won 16 of 17. It was one of those times when the whole team got hot at the same time. That bullpen of Anderson, Smith, Agosto, Darwin and Schatzeder was one of the best Houston had ever seen.
Too many to mention...many have already been said. One that I remember: July 16, 1987...went to the game with my brother, and the Astros had just called up a kid from the minors to play 3rd. In his first game Ken Caminiti goes 2 for 3 with a HR, triple, and a walk. We thought "Wow, this kid's gonna be a good one." Another one...Game one of the 1986 playoffs... A large group of friends and I were at the front table of The Jalapeno Tree in Webster when Mike Scott goes the distance for a 1-0 win. Glenn Davis with a solo shot in the second inning holds up for the win.
Oh hell yeah. Player of the Week his first week in the majors. 11-27, 2B, 3B, 2 HR, 4 R, 4 RBI, buncha crazy defensive plays. Him diving to his right, guy would do a barrell roll, hop up and throw guys out. He had serious issues later, but young Caminiti is still one of my favorite players I've watched.
the double play by far, i can remember the announcers saying "they are not gonna be able to turn to, or are they!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
