No, take the whole year......6 games out.....and barely over .500....that ok with you? Not to mention losing 3 of 4 to one of the WORST teams in major league baseball, and having a road record of: 7-14. I guess it boils down to 2 schools of thought. 1. It is a long season and they will be alright - this is an aberation. 2. The way they are playing is indicitive of the team as a whole, and while it will go up and down, it won't be good enough. I think we are in position 2. DD
Man, Burke knocked the cover off that one, but Jackson got a great jump on it and still barely made the play. I don't like seeing another poor start by Pettitte.
Of course not. Of course, it's not a 47-game season either. If it was, I'd share you indignation. But you have no way of knowing that. What we do know is that they've played good ball this season for a longer stretch of time than they've played bad ball. Additionally, this team has shown what they can do over the past two seasons. Whether or not you think past history means anything is irrelevant. The only significant loss from last season is Roger Clemens and there's a good chance he'll be pitching at MMP in a few weeks.
Wild Thing I vs. Wild Thing II Revisited Williams 1994 IP - 20 H - 21 BB -24 WHIP - 2.25 ERA - 7.65 Lidge 2006 IP - 20.2 H - 21 BB - 17 WHIP - 1.84 ERA - 6.53
This catcher turns singles into triples ... I like that Burke has to steal here to avoid the DP! Edit: Huge strike out by Brad ... that was our chance to really get close ... Lane needs to pick him up
Shocking runners at 2nd and 3rd, and Ausmus and Lane can't get it done. Ausmus is coming back to the pack, dang it. Lane....that guy has had his chance, he needs to go back into a reserve role. DD
19 runners LOB. Hey Astros, thanks for signing some bats with all that money you decided not to pay Clemens in the winter! (and no, signing a broken down Preston Wilson to a bargain basement 4 mil contract doesn't quite cut it) This is what happens when you have a ballclub trying to get by on the cheap and play with the big boys while adhering to a mid market budget. You have to pay to play in this game.
THANK YOU !!!! Don't forget the money from the Insurance on Bagwell, it probably will be a settlement but at least 50%. DD
Is it possible for this team to be more unlucky? Between Andy's inexplicably horrid start and Lance's (re?)injury, all Ausmus had to do was touch the baseball and it's a brand new game at 7-5. Too much to ask. Then, Lane gets one of the few good swings he's had in weeks, but of course it's hit to the only place in the ballpark where it wouldn't be off or over the wall and it's run down. There's also another run the previous inning if Zimmerman doesn't make one of the best defensive plays in years to take away a potential double ripped by Wilson. Not to mention leaving another runner on third with only 1 out when Lamb grounded into the DP in the first. Now, multiple bunt singles from the Nats. I know it's one game and one series, but this is some of the most absurd luck I've ever seen.
Mid Market Budget? http://www.onestopbaseball.com/TeamPayroll.asp We have a top 8 payroll, and they are trying to add how many more millions to get Clemens to pitch? I'd say they are not just being cheap.
making contact is waaay too much to ask of ausmus. .315 ba with 11 rbis and no hrs. lolol. i love you people who didn't understand what a fluke his hitting at the beginning of the season was, and bought into him all of a sudden knowing how to hit a baseball. he's worthless people. always has been, always will be. i'm booking any and all bets for those of you who think he'll be hitting above .250 by season's end.
I'm glad the anger is coming back out from some of the people who got just a little tooo campy after the World Series run, and the good start to this season... this actually feels like the whining, complaining, short-sighted, no patience Astros forum that I got so used to posting in. I don't expect anybody to actually believe in this team throughout an entire season... that would be a sure-fire sign of the apocalypse.
