Looks like the old Adam Everett is back on absoulty sucks on offense. Phil's dumbass needs to put Taveras at led off and Everett at 7th. Also they need to call up Astactio and Quintero. Ausmus is just flat out horrible on offense and his defense isn't that good to not expect anything offensely. Quintero could hit and play defense and he has a better arm. Yankees put Womack at lead-off today and won so the Astros need to same thing.
I gotta say...today I am officially off the "give Adam Everett more time in the leadoff spot" bandwagon. Nothing pisses me off more than striking out with a runner @ 3rd and less than 2 outs. And it really pisses me off when the opposing pitcher is not really a strikeout pitcher. I think it has gotten to the point now where the pressure of needing to produce from the leadoff spot is effecting Adam's concentration. He needs to be moved back...maybe not to 8, but definitely towards the bottom of the order. Move Willy up...at least until pitchers figure out whatever holes he may have in his swing (hopefully they won't).
Garner is a great game manager and a great person. A personable guy and a breath of fresh air compared to Jimy. But he has got to stop with the jokes and get with the program. He is about to start p***ing me off with his rigidity. Eh we know you have given Adam and Morgan a change according to your baseball wisdom - now it is time to move them out of those slots they are in now and move Willie and Jason into their place. This stubbornness from our manager is geting annoying and unbearable. We have very little margin for error. I am informed enough to agree that this lineup was the probabaly the right one for the first week of the season (as a pilot program) but we have gone long enough into it to conclude that Morgan and Adam are not comfortable in those roles now. Losing to the Metz twice now is a shame. That Mertz team is woeful.....maybe in reality we are as well. Again what was the point pitching Lidge on Sunday with a 5-2 lead knowing that he could be more valuable on Monday with Andy pitching? And now Lidge will go into tomorrow's game with 3 games of no live action. Maybe scrap iron is over or under thinking himself lately (Detriot failures ring any bell?).
I think we are all a little frustrated early. Hopefully, things will turn around before we sink to the bottom. Let us hope the water is shallow. LOL
All those of you who yearned for the days of 1-0 pitching duels got your wish! Great pitching, inept offense. Need to put our best hitters out there, and at the top/middle of the lineup. Everett and Ausmus should be locks for the 7/8 spots. Roger was just awesome. The way he pitches, at his age, is just incredible. He's going to go down as perhaps the best pitcher in history.
To be fair, unless your name was Bagwell or Biggio, the entire Astro lineup sucked last night... no matter where anyone else was batting. The pitching, however, was amazing. The Mets still have a decent offensive team, and Clemens, Qualls, Franco, and Wheeler shut them down for a good 10 innings. Then, Wheeler made the mistake of a leadoff walk, but it was clear by that point that we weren't gonna be scoring anything anyways. Ah well... you can't dwell too much on individual games.... just series. We're going to lose this one already, but if you're only going to win one, its better that it is the last one. Avoid the sweep... and then go to Cincy and find the batting stroke in that hitters paradise.
Everett really blew the game in my book. You have to score the run from third with 1 out. He failed. I think Bidge would have got that run home and we would have won the game. Bidge is my only candidate for the lead-off spot. He's done it for years. He knows how to do it. And, he excels in that position in the order. What the hell Garner is doing putting Everett there...who hasn't proven himself as a hitter...is beyond me. You want a person who can get on, can bunt singles, and...ideally...can run. Everett fits two of the three I guess. Taveras might be a good candidate except for he's a rookie. Bidge is the only one for the lead-off spot in my book.
I agree Surfguy....this Everett experiment is getting tiresome. I don't care of its early in the season....it isn;t working.....it hasnt worked once. Its getting to the point where we not only need to clear the pitcher, but we need to clear Everett as well. That being said...our lineup is horrible all around right now. No one in the league has scored less runs. I hope Tim and Drayton are enjoying watching the kids play
I think the astros should go to an american idol format, where the people should be allowed to vote in a lineup. This is ridculous. The Ausmus and everett experiment has gone on far too long. Neither one has ever set the table. Are all the managers reading the same stupid book or something.
I agree with a lot of the sentiment here ... I want Adam moved to the 7/8 spot, I want Ausmus relegated to the role of Backup. I believe Willy should be moved to the top of the lineup however. The guy has shown patience in taking walks, tremendous speed, and the ability to put down a bunt for a hit. I think he may need to get smarter on the basepaths, but other than that, he could be a tremendous leadoff man. What good has Taveras' speed and OBP done this year. NOTHING for the simple fact that he hits behind Brad "double-play" Ausmus and ahead of the pitchers spot and Everett. What a waste!
With Biggio out for a few days, why not at least try Burke in the lead off with Everett 2nd? He was a much better 2 hitter last year then he is a leadoff. My only other complaint is that Ensberg is not a cleanup hitter. To be a cleanup guy, you actually have to swing the bat. Strikeouts don't bother me unless you don't take the bat off of your shoulder. There is no reason he should have so many "K-L" (that's strikeout-looking for those that are wondering) on his sheet.
yeah...i flipped when he just watched that 3rd strike late in the game last night.....unfortunately, bags wont see much to hit until ensberg starts hitting those pitches with consistency
