Reminds me of the foul tip back in the day that Castro didn't go field, but the ump never signaled foul and the runners scored. How nobody sees it and it isn't challengeable are both amazingly stupid
The fact that the umpires all miss that is also ridiculous. At this point, they just can’t see everything and all of MLB knows it. It’s just the umpires union that will fight every expansion of replay or automation tooth/nail that keeps them from focusing on getting the call right.
Yep. I understand that they didn’t want to initially make all calls reviewable for additional fear they’d slow the game down… and had to pick/choose which ones (and honestly, foul balls at the plate should be seen/heard by at least one of the umpires every time)…. But now that replay has gotten “faster”, with more cameras, more angles, more ways to slow it down, more ways to get it “confirmed”, they should be able to make it all replayable. Or use ****ing common sense… why would Altuve complain about his foot and not run there on a play that he could have potentially beat out? NBA/NFL refs do have the ability to read a players’ reactions to influence calls… they know when players are obviously flabbergasted/reacting immediately (which tends to mean the call was wrong), vs players just trying to sell a call.
Bryan Abreu actually needs all the appearances and fatigue to “get right”. Too much time off, and he’s all out of whack.
Am I wrong in thinking that it does not matter if it hit Altuve's foot or not. The ball came off the bat and hit the dirt in the batters box. isn't that a foul ball?
This game and weather is starting to get drunk…. Astros better be ready to not have another replay of Anaheim earlier this month.
