I'm still thrilled with the way Norris has been pitching. Sure, today wasn't his best outing, but it's not as if he was hit hard all game long. Only a few were actually hit decent, and the first inning route was close to being avoided. IMO, Blum should have had that grounder. It was hit weakly, and it seemed as if he just refused to even dive to possibly knock it down. If it's because he's still hurting a bit, then he doesn't need to be out there. That being said, I was one of those saying Norris belonged in the bullpen, rather than the rotation. However, he's been pitching extremely well as of late, and if he can work on his control this off season, he will definitely be a solid #4 for us. Myers/Wandy/Happ/Norris/Paulino. Not too shabby..
Thanks Brooks, haha. I thought embedding a player for a forum post would be a lot easier. Hasn't it been done by posters in the past? (without like... 2 hours of trying?)
been seeing this posted a lot. I'm thrilled with Myers, too; but this rotation sounds like a .500 team at best, the last two months' hot streak notwithstanding. Myers is not an ace.
Pretty sure that is what he meant, .500 team, with that rotation but I will say this, who thought the Padres had the rotation to be running away with the West before the season started especially after Young went down? It really all depends on the development of Norris, Paulino and Happ and throw in Lyles...could he be our Latos in 2011?
Agreed. At the very least he should have tried to dive and keep it in the infield to save a run and as you said, if he was not healthy enough to hit the ground, he should not have been out there (unless they were showcasing him to be healthy for a trade today or tomorrow). Also, on the next grounder, I think he had the opportunity to turn and get Dickey at second but appeared to not even think to do that.
That's what I thought at first as well but they had Blum shift over because the pitcher was up and they were expecting him to hit it to the right if Norris was able hit his spot. Mills talked about it after the game. Blum did what was asked of him. Norris was aiming for the outside corner but the ball drifted back over the plate and Dickey was able to hit it back up the middle. Blum may not have made a great effort but he was where they wanted him to be.
