Who in the hell does Mike Piazza think he is, throwing out a runner??? Of course, it was Ausmus. Middle of third, 3-0, Good Guys.
Hey that reminds me of another Seinfeld episode: WATKINS: It's T-bone. GEORGE: The thing is...I'm supposed to be T-bone. WATKINS: Heh heh. You're not a T-bone. You're a perfect George. GEORGE: What? Now, you listen to me! Kruger and a few other people watch George through the window of the conference room door. KRUGER: Hey, look at George. He's givin' it to T-bone. He's jumpin' up and down like some kind of monkey. Hey, what was the name of that monkey that could read sign language? WATKINS: All right, you can have T-bone. Stop crying. GEORGE (sniffling): I'm not crying. And I shouldn't have said that about your wife. Please accept my apologies.
Redding escapes a jam. Ya know, in years past, the old Redding would have lost control and ultimately, removed from the game. Nice to see him bear down and get out of the inning with only 1 run. However, I bet Jimmy yanks him after 5.
close. Jimmy let him have 6 innings tonight. Good job by him. I was expecting to see Wagner for the save, but instead got to see some guy named Scott Linebrink. Who is this guy? I have never heard of him before. So far he has 1 loss this year, and just gave up a homer.
Pitching change. Wagner in for linebrink. woooo....finally!!!! WAGNER!!! What was Jimmy thinking not using him for the save!! Go Wagner!!!
Linebrink is not bad. Frankly I was pissed that Jimy pulled him so quick. I mean, he gave up a homer to Piazza. Big deal, that's happened to LOTS of pitchers. Then he gave up a jammed shot opposite field single to the next guy. He wasn't pitching badly, and he still had a 4 run lead. The bullpen has been overworked, and Linebrink is relatively new and fresh. So what does Jimy do? He pulls Linebrink and sticks in our closer, one of the many bullpen guys that has been overworked so far this season (though not quite as badly as guys like Lidge and Dotel). It's just seemed like an awfully quick hook to me.
Well, I was at the game tonight (sitting in the second row!). There was nobody at the game. The attendance was announced as 31,000, but in actuality, there were probably around 20,000 people at Shea. Maybe. And they were apathetic at best. No energy. No cheering. No nothing. The only thing that motivated them was Cedeno. The Mets fans at the game just loooooved to boo him. Every time he came up to bat, they jeered. Every time he took the field, they heckled. Geez, they even showed a play of his on the Jumbotron, and the fans booed that, too. The Mets themselves played like they didn't care. Alomar showed no hustle, whatsoever. There were at least 2 defensive plays he could have made, but he just didn't expend any effort at all. Cone was laughable as the starter. Cedeno struck out twice and didn't seem to care (was the booing even getting to him?). Piazza and Burnitz seemed like the only Mets to actually show some heart. Everyone else just went through the motions. Man, the Mets are just awful... As for the game itself, I couldn't figure out if Redding was just that good, or if the Mets were just that bad. I came away thinking it was a little of column A and a little of column B. Kent had a good showing, Blum and Hidalgo surprised me, and Bagwell disappointed me by blowing a golden opportunity to put the game out of reach with the bases loaded. Brad Lidge was good, Linebrink was crappy, and Wagner almost gave me a heart attack. But hey, that's the Astros bullpen, right? I was hoping Dotel would come in to stick it to the Mets. Oh, well. There's always tomorrow. All in all, it was a good time (for an Astros fan). I might try to go again tomorrow or Thursday. Hopefully, the fans will show a little more spirit. Talking smack to Mets fans just isn't any fun anymore, especially when they keep agreeing with me. Where's the fun in that?
The Chronicle did a story on baseball attendance last week..it's down everywhere. I was looking through the paper this morning, and if a team draws 20,000, they're doing good.
whew....Oswalt just got himself out of a big jam. Gave up one run, but with 1 out and bases loaded...that is the least we could beg for.
It looks like Oswalt has kinda lost his magic so far this season . Lets just hope he dont go Lima on us .
Its a LONNNNNNNNNNNNG season. I think we are due to break out of the team hitting slump any time now. Clutch hitting is killing us.
Uhh.... we've already won 3 games in our last at bat, w/ clutch hitting, that we had no buisness winning. Look around the league, and all the teams have had only one game like that if any... I say, we've had more than enough clutch hitting for the 1st month. (games w/ clutch hitting) 4/2 vs. Colorado -- 5 runs in bottom of ninth, we win 8-7 4/5 @ St. Louis -- 2 runs in top of ninth, we win 2-1 4/11 vs. St. Louis -- bottom of ninth, 2 outs, man on 1st, Jeff Kent..... gone. we win 3-2.
