100% agree. And considering that we: - have received NOTHING from our best hitter, and top 10 hitter in the league when healthy in Yordan - traded away elite talent Kyle Tucker - lost Alex Bregman to free agency - received very little from our largest offensive FA addition in Christian Walker (he's been better lately, but was downright bad for the first few months of the season) - Yainer started off the season super slow as well - 3 million pitching injuries The front office should honestly do a deep dive on how this was possible, and try and learn from it. It's damn near a minor miracle, but there has to be some nuggets to takeaway.
I feel like he just goes against the grain so if he’s right he can tell everyone how he “predicted it”. He was overly optimistic about McCullers (or “Junior” as he called him) saying he would be our game 3 starter when everyone on here besides the Beard was saying he was washed. The vast majority of the board was saying Correa isn’t washed so of course his opinion is that he is washed.
Yesterday Dana said they would have an opener today, but its very strange to bring Blueballs up and not start him. Maybe Miami has lefties at top of lineup? Haven't looked. But if Rooney wasn't going to start, they needed more L/R balance in the 'pen
All else equal sure, but give me a team that is red hot that's 3 games back over a team that is collapsing any day. Not saying that we are "collapsing" yet, but if our guys weren't coming back from injury I'd be much more pessimistic
I am really hoping the Yankees can out collapse us in the upcoming week... They already demoted Bird after 3 appearances... 3 disastrous appearances...
Things can change very quickly in baseball. Especially when talking about similarly talented teams. The "hot" team can become the "cold" team at any time and the "cold" team can become the "hot" team at anytime.
When I saw they got both Doval and Bednar, I felt they needed to replace Williams as the closer with one of those 2, my thought was Bednar. But Williams was their prize off season acquisition and they appear not to want to budge off him as their closer. This is a lost season for Williams. If Boone refuses to see that in time, they will find themselves failing to make the playoffs.
Get over yourself. I've got it almost even odds with Seattle. We've got the 3 game cushion working in our favor. I think y'all are still dismissing Seattle even after the trade deadline with the massive upgrade to their lineup. Unless Arozarena and Rodriguez decides to resort to the mediocre hitters they were for the better part of 3 months, this is a top 3 lineup in all of baseball. The division will come down to the last weekend just like 2023. All 3 teams with a shot at it.
We are much improved as well with return of Pena and the addition of Sanchez, Correa and Urias. Still have Alvarez, Meyers and [maybe] Paredes as well. And the potential return of 4 MLB level starting pitchers.
All else equal, I’ll take the team that has won the division 8 years in a row (not counting the short Covid season) that has a 3 game lead over the perennial choker. Especially when we are getting back Arrighetti, Javier, Dubin, Yordan and may have even gotten lucky with Walter already throwing.
You're not called the realist for nothing. These teams are going in 2 very different directions. Houston 8-15 in their last 23, Seattle 12-8 in their last 20. The most concerning thing is being 1-4 in Brown's last 5 starts and 0-2 in Framber's last 2 starts. How soon can starting pitching get stabilized? That's the biggest question. Walter going down really sucked. Valdez, Brown, Arrighetti, Javier, Walter. If that's our starting 5 by middle to late August, then I do believe we are in good shape.
