Oh, I think they will try to move him. But they are going to want too much back. Nobody will want to give what they are asking. It goes back to something I read yesterday. In that, the Astros are perceived by other clubs as having a few good pieces, but will be hard to deal with cause a couple folks are trying to save there jobs with some outlandishly good move right before the new boss comes onboard.
I agree with both you and rikesh on this one. I think both statements are true. The Astros covet Pence as if he is a guy that can be the best player on a contender and they will demand trade chips like he is one. Ultimately, I think he stays, but not because the Astros didn't try to move him.
Since I started watching the Stros in 1986, this is the lowest point I can remember. Our few trade chips are struggling and AAA is useless. Castro will be back next season, maybe September, but still not many young pieces at the ML level. I would kill for Altuve, Martinez and Castro to join Wallace, Downs, Lyles, Norris, Melancon and Rodriguez as the young core to start with. I flip flop daily on Pence, he is very talented but a lot of teams could use his bat and arm. Just don't see them moving him unless its a blockbuster...i'd move him.
For clarity, I wasnt really disagreeing with rikesh316. It amounts to the same thing as not trying to move him when you know ahead of time there will be no takers (because of what you want back).
Thats the same year I tuned into them. That was a fun year to watch. This year hasnt been much fun. All I can hope at this point is we dont become a perennial AAAA team for a decade or two like a few other cities have had to suffer.
