Hahaha, score earlier 7-2, now 8-7....Take that Drayton!!! Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse
One bad play in one game is a lot. This is his standard zone rating on the season. 4th worst among all qualified shortstops: http://www.hardballtimes.com/thtsta...mit&orderBy=zone_rating&direction=DESC&page=1 1st in errors: http://www.hardballtimes.com/thtsta...ubmit=Submit&orderBy=fe&direction=DESC&page=1
not one bit. he's an average to slightly above average major league player just like he always has been. he's a local boy who plays the game hard and with enthusiasm and that has caused fans to make him out to be something that he isn't.
And yet fans still lament the loss of Willy Taveras... who was a BELOW average major league player, both in his time here and since he's gone elsewhere.
10th in Fielding % ... 10 places better than Adam Everett. With all Miggy has brought this year, I'll take it.
I'd venture to say the Astros have won ZERO extra inning games on the road where they bring in Valverde without the lead.
I think he has a lot more natural talent than the average major league, he just doesn't always know how to use it.
Everett is one of the best defensive SSs of all time. His accomplishments are well documented. I can dig up some stats that would probably make a good argument that his typical defense above replacement outweighs Tejada's typical offense above replacement. I like Miggy, too. I think his defense is bad though and it's cost us a couple of games along the way. The resumed Nats game and one of Wandy's starts early in the year where Wandy gave up a bunch of runs but none earned come to mind off the top.
our extra innings record on the road the past 3 or 4 seasons must be awful. seems like we lose every single one of em. anybody care to find that? i'm lazy.
I ain't getting into it about Adam Everett. Adam Everett (for all his hype) never did anything of great importance as far as I'm concerned. Fine, he fielded some balls & threw to first. Yay. Did his job. Hit like a girl. I know what yer trying to explain to me, but it won't matter. That little stat page you showed me in that other post .. click the rest of it ... catagory by catagory. Miggy is darn near in 1st place or at the very LEAST, top 10 in every catagory you click. & his offense has won us many more games than he's lost us this year. & he's been an all-star each year he's been here. Good enough for me.
His advantage in innings played doesn't justify being near the bottom in zone rating/efficiency. Assists for a SS are also a function of pitchers inducing groundballs and how much you play. Considering Tejada is among the worst in converting balls in zone into outs, you could argue he should probably have several more assists. The volume of assists is most likely due to the types of pitchers we have.
