sure...why not? make them excuses, get on that DL Bulldog!!! avoid getting cut at all costs and wrap you up that 2010 spot Backe-style!
It's discouraging to see a team spend so little money and field a superior product. Spending for talent is great but that needs to be supplementary not your main building method.
I'd like to see a fully rested Bazardo get a few starts. I imagine he will if Hampton goes on the DL.
How can they spend any money when no one goes to their games? All the Marlins do (and get very good at it apparently) is firesale firesale firesale WS win firesale firesale firesale WS win. It's an interesting pattern and a hell of a job with their scouting dept, but how does Florida still have the Marlins if no one goes to their games?
To make matters worse, the Astros are interested in Smoltz The Smoltz Watch: If the Red Sox wind up releasing John Smoltz, which seems likely, the list of teams interested in signing him for the prorated minimum salary might be larger than people think. A number of clubs were gathering information on Smoltz this week -- from the teams we've heard a lot about (the Rangers and Dodgers) to teams we haven't (the Marlins and Astros). http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=stark_jayson&page=rumblings090813
why does that make matters worse? i'd sure as hell rather watch him pitch than hampton or moehler. he would cost virtually nothing.
He's old as hell. Why would you want him over even someone from our Lexington team? We're not contending for much this year, it makes no sense to bring in a fossil.
Aren't most of those Lexington kids extremely young? I agree with you to an extent though. I'd rather see Bazardo and Paulino get more starts than bring in another over the hill.
I know the studs(Lyles and Seaton) are just out of HS, and have no business pitching in the majors, though you'd still like to see them move faster through the system then they have with some players. I can't see them in the majors any earlier than a 2011 callup.
If the Stros didn't make a move for a pitcher when they where 2,3 or even 4 games out I don't see them going after Smoltz now...saying that a move back to the National League would help the Vet a great deal and limiting him to 5 or 6 innings ala Pedro would help a contender.
richardjustice Chris Sampson optioned to Round Rock. Sammy Gervacio called up WOW...I didn't expect this?!?! It is obivous to me that he is not healthy Id put him on the DL but to RR?? Numbers wise make sense but I dont know???
bring a single A pitcher up this season?? that doesn't happen. bazardo will get starts in hampton's place, and there is literally nobody else in-house that makes sense to bring up. paulino is garbage, and he has had ample opportunities to prove otherwise. smoltz was a perennial stud prior to the injury that he just came back from, and he will get another chance somewhere to prove that he still has it...the sox just didn't have the ability to sit around and wait to find out. pitching poorly over a short period of time immediately following his return from a major injury proves nothing. we have nothing to lose, ideally he'd return to his prior self and stick around as our #4 or 5 next season.
I am kidding about the Lexington pitchers. I believe they are all indeed 12-14 year olds, lol. I just don't see a Smoltz signing making much long-term sense though. Even if he has a good 50 or so games in the tank this season, he's just a rental at best on a non-contending team. No one's quite 100% sure what Drayton wants to do with the team, but if he wants to get better long-term I don't know if you pickup smoltz.
That's an interesting move. I think that's the solution for all our players that give up runs. They're just injured, that's all
Dude is pitching with a Torn Labrum its not fair...he is struggling but he was money for the first part of the season...
