Should have been swept. Espada gave Seattle all the chances in the world to win that middle game. Maybe we should have lost that game, because Crane watching all 3 of those very winnable games go south against hated Seattle would have probably gotten Espada fired. Something tells me we aren't gonna hear he's fired this morning. Brown is the ultimate blame for the downfall of this organization. He hired this fool Espada (how's that for settling?). He bet on the wrong horse with Javier. Can't reign in Tucker when we should have been able to sign him after the 22 season. Fails to sign Valdez now he'll be gone after the season. Bregman. They'll all be gone. Brown is just as much in over his head as Espada.
Interesting take. meanwhile, the bullpen ruined a great start and a good offensive showing against good pitching. Things get ironed out over 6 months. I agree that this was a frustrating loss but also necessary to identify the weaknesses and hopefully strengthen them as the season progresses. We are getting good starting pitching and our closer has been very good. To me, it looks like the hitting is slowly improving. I hope the focus continues to be getting pitch counts up and getting on base.
Sorry, but those teams were good enough to overcome his "moves", but this team clearly is not above getting out of the way of a coach who cannot make the "right moves". I am spoiled, I assume the Astros will win the title simply because we have done so for almost a decade, but as someone else pointed out, this is a soft rebuild, were just not good enough to overcome incompetent coaching. I underestimated the loss of Tucker and Breggy and bought into the Cam Smith hype train. It`s early blah, blah, blah but the reality is were an OK team who will probably win 80 games and get bounced in the first round. I will still watch, but I am in for more heartburn this season then I have in the past decade.............Man, I really thought we had an abundance of pitching but that to was a mirage..........................Yea, Go Stros
Nothing worse then going to the bar to watch the Astros wrap up a victory… only to see the bullpen explode
This is where I'm at. The pitching is good, Scott needs to be the long relief guy. He had a career year last year and fell off of a cliff at the end of last year. What's happened to him is to be expected. Gusto/Okert/King/Hader have been good. (i know Okert wgave up the hr.) They just need to get Whitley/Ort back and pitching well. Maybe trade for another reliever at some point, or LMJ comes back and Wisnewski takes a role in the bullpen. What's wrong with Abreau?
Abreu has always been bad after an extended layoff. He's at his best when he's pitching nearly every day. Joe should have known this. Putting him in cold was not going to go well.
Why does everyone think that Whitley is going to do anything? He wasn't that effective last year when he came up amd he kept walking people during ST. I get the hope but people counting on him is different. I still have more faith in Scott/Contreras than I do in Whitley. People are acting like he is a proven quality.
I have zero expectations for Whitley. However, he was pretty good in Sugar Land as a reliever last year. He only pitched in 3 games for the Astros so I'm not going to judge him on that. He has no options left. He will get a pretty long look with the Astros before they totally cut ties with him. I'm more looking forward to Ort returning. The Astros really need him to be a late inning guy to go with King, Abreu, and Hader.... assuming Abreu figures it out like he usually does.
bases loaded 3 times and how many runs did they get out of that? 2............ 3 times bases were loaded. 3!!!!!!! what is this team doing when RiSP?
He would be one of the last guys in the bullpen. I'm betting he would be better the Contreras. The bar isn't set high.
3 out if the next 4 series are against division leaders. Yup your division l He is a proven quantity He is a proven porcelain doll
It seems like that's been the bane of the teams Existence forever now. Since at least Covid. Leaving runners stranded. I wish there was an accumulated stat which included the playoffs because lord knows the 'Stros would lead that category. Im out on Espada and Cintrón. Clean house.
Espada made a lot of the same mistakes last year. I am hopeful he will improve. I think his inexperience as a manager is telling and I wonder if he is cut out for the job.
