It’s early. The Astros don’t look good. The manager is obviously pretty awful. Things don’t look encouraging yet and maybe they won’t. I will still watch. just changing the channel from drama to comedy. When the Astros get serious again, so will I.
I tell myself every year I’m not gonna get worked up in April, and every year the Astros do some dumb **** like today and get me worked up.
I wanted Espada to get the job simply because Dana Brown came out publicly in favor of him and wanted a better GM and Manager relationship than we had before with Click and Dusty. I don't think Espada is a good manager, but I think the expectations around here for this team are a bit much. The lineup is worse. The bullpen is worse. The rotation is worse..... and that team that was better in all aspects got swept right out of the playoffs last season. I said before the season started I viewed this year as a soft rebuild. It feels like too many in here bought into the Cam Smith hype train as if that was going to fix this roster. The roster has too much dead money on it with Abreu, McCullers, Javier, Pressly, Garcia, and Montero. That is over 60 million in dead money. Crane wasn't going to spend enough to offset the problem. So they snuck below the CBT and yet somehow everyone has the same expectations after losing Bregman, Tucker, Kikuchi, and Pressly. The hopium is on another level for some I guess. Here is the other little issue. The Astros terrible start last season ended up hitting them hard in terms of attendance. The attendance was down 217,000 compared to 2023. Crane will never go into the red. If revenue falls then payroll falls with it and he showed that by dropping the payroll 35 million....
Is your expectation that it should be expected to blow 5 run 8th inning leads with crackpot managing?
Abreu got screwed on the K -- but he sucked overall, and sucky ass Contreras began the downfall. Astros and their fans have an untimely day off to wallow in the mire. Next stop, Daikin... where they suck Terrible loss Wasted performance by Hunter
I think most people understand this roster is not on par with some of the better rosters Houston has fielded over the last ten years, but we also know the roster is probably good enough to make the playoffs. That narrower margin is why I think a lot of us are angry about **** like today, where they gave up a FIVE RUN LEAD because the manager botched the pitcher usage. The success of this season could come down to just a game or two in the regular season. If the Astros had a 2018 level stacked roster, we wouldn’t be sweating an April game as much.
I agree with that. However, I came into this season giving the Astros virtually zero chance to win the World Series. That's why I was saying I'm more interested in watching what the young guys do in Houston, Sugar Land, and Corpus. All I care about is winning the World Series. This team would need so many things to go right it is pure hopium in my opinion. Therefore, I'm kinda more into thinking about next year for the Astros. I'm not paying attention to the games nearly as much. I usually have them on while I am working out but have actually been watching other teams more this season. Also paying more attention to the Rockets and the NFL Draft.
Not gonna lie...UH losing is still pissing me off so I'm probably just not patient with how the Astros are performing at the moment.
True, but they are still a very good team if they had a better manger. Espada must know Scott sucks, yet he put Scott out there in a 1 run game. Scott sucked so Espada had to blow through his bullpen to win last nights game, which lead to today's loss. Espada needs to go now because the team isn't good enough to overcome his bad management.
He is a role model - not a leader. He can be a bench coach or manage a 60 win expansion team. I am ready for him to go. He cannot make tough decisions and he isn’t very bright.
How does a team that continues to not hit with RISP, K's non stop, doesn't walk and goes to the plate with no hitting approach continue to keep the same hitting coaches? This has been an issue for a long time.
