I just got this image of this WW2 like destroyer out at sea. It was listing badly, some smoke coming from various places on the deck, alarms going off, but it still was pushing forward and had its remaining guns trained on the enemy. Watching this vessel go to battle is like watching the Astros go to the playoffs to me. It almost hurts to watch. But the Bismarck was sunk by lesser ships, so who knows?
I just don't understand these takes. This year is more of a crapshoot than ever. Making the playoffs is still important. It is still another opportunity to shut people up, an opportunity for redemption. It's also an opportunity for failure, but wouldn't you rather have a chance than go out with a complete whimper, epic meltdown to end the season? I just don't get this mindset...
Spoiler END THIS GARBAGE SHAM SEASON ALREADY! PLAYOFFS?! WE TALKING ABOUT PLAYOFFS?! THEY'LL BE ONE AND DONE AND LUCKY TO WIN A GAME!
No, because the Astros are not going to do well and honestly, I don't think they have played well enough to deserve a playoff appearance. I will be happy for the handful of young guys that have been locked in..... but that is about it.
The playoff qualification is different now, and it's probably here to stay. Get used to it. Also, I could point out that the Nationals were 24-32 at this point last year, but I'm am sure you already know that. Hopefully they prove you wrong. I don't see why anyone would actively root for less Astros baseball, even more so no Astros playoff baseball.
I am indifferent to it. I know that the Astros are not going deep in the playoffs and they really do not deserve to. The sooner this season is aborted, the better...... and we are on to the 2021 season. In fact the entire year of 2020 I say..........
Yes. I think 2021 will be better. Altuve isn't going to have a .580 OPS, Correa and Gurriel will not have sub .700 OPS and Bregman isn't going to be hovering around .750.... Alvarez will be back as well.
Framber continuing to improve would make him close to an ace. Urquidy continuing to improve would solidify him as a top 3 starter. Greinke is Greinke. That's a pretty solid top 3 and we haven't even gotten to LMJ finding a level of consistency 1 year post TJ.
Paredes and Taylor have inside tracks at roles next year. Pressly has worked himself back to getting at least the setup role. Josh James a huge wild card, but if they can keep his arm fresh... he’ seems to have responded very well since coming off the last injury, and likely will remain a bullpen guy. Brooks Raley likely gets a spot based on how he’s looked in his Astros tenure. Joe Smith will be back as well. I don’t think Scrubb, Bielik, Sneed would have been on the active roster in any normal year... but they did get a taste. I’m sure Click can find a veteran or two to round out some roles. It’s not as bleak as it once was.
