Homer? What the **** does that even mean? When have I ever blindly supported them and withheld my criticism? Not surprising that the subtle humor of my post went over your head, but if you want to write off this season after every loss, be my guest. There will be at least 50 more chances for everyone to let their infancy get the best of them.
Don't hold your breath on Hinch changing anything. He didn't switch his demeanor at all last season, and we sucked the entire first month.
As a Houstonian, I'm always the first to defend everything Houston related. But my goodness, Houston sports fans (in general) have to be some of the most fairweather fans in the country. Just a week ago every Astros fan was freaking out about how awesome the team was and talking about being a WS caliber team. Now just one week later and ONLY 8 GAMES INTO THE SEASON, fans are freaking out about a "poor .500 record". This thread instantly becomes virtually unbearable any time the team loses. I love Houston and our teams, but man, we sure have some fairweather fans.
i was at work and recorded + just watched the game are we past the "everyone sucks/should be fired" stage of this thread yet?
Not sure how you infer "indifferent". I'll always battle the "if he's not arguing, he doesn't care" mentality. It's about player perception. If someone can tell me (and I think you have sources sometimes, right?) that the players think he's useless or doesn't do enough or doesn't get them ready for games..that would definitely be different. Chris Carter and Scott Feldman were brought in for a god awful team to spend some dollars and grab a few wins / maybe generate some trade value. Pointless to bring them up in this context. If Morton does what Fister did last year, I'd be happy with both of them, even on a contender. We are expecting to get a #3-#4 SP who ideally plays 2/3 of the season. Luhnow was still trying for Quintana after the move, and will continue to try for him or someone else until the deadline. Doesn't make Morton a bad move (yet).
This is such b.s. I hate this take so much. If no one was here to complain about a loss, that would be fair weather. There have been few and far between stretches of fair weather in this franchise's history. I've been living and dying with this team for as long as I can remember. Anyone still here after the turd burgers this franchise has served up after 50 plus years is a mother falcon fan. If I'm pissed off after a stretch of bad baseball I don't need you to come tell me I'm not a fan. If I weren't a fan I wouldn't be pissed off. So piss off.
I'm more afraid of the fact that this team runs incredibly hot or incredibly cold. Of course a hot streak will come, but we can't afford to have it come after another abysmal April. I just don't want things to snowball.
I agree. But on paper, it wouldn't appear that they should run hot/cold like past teams. I mean, they take more pitches, have better contact rates, lower K rates, better hard-hit ball %ages, etc. And in general are better, of course. I'd be surprised and very disappointed if they were super streaky again.
I don't see how we know anything more or less now, after one whole week of games, than we knew a week ago. Other than McHugh being out, nothing has changed. Give it a couple of weeks and then things get changed.
I stand by my opinion. I completely understand being upset after a loss, but acting like the world is falling apart after every single loss does in fact make this thread almost unbearable to read through.
blah blah blah, that's baseball blah blah blah, 120 something games blah blah blah, maturing team At least the hype dying allows me to get into the ballpark for $5
That's fine...perhaps it is "unbearable." But don't pretend that people who care enough to be pissed aren't fans.
So now its unbearable to point out team problems? And pointing them out equates to freaking out? So the only true fans are Polyanna mutes?
I never said they aren't fans. I just said I thought they can be fairweather. Maybe up and down fans is a better description. I have no problem with people pointing out the team's issues. I recognize their issues and will point them out as well. But a lot of people are doing more than just pointing out issues. A lot of people are pointing out issues and then blowing them up like these issues have already determined the outcome of this season.
I know there have been a myriad of complaints about what appears to be the Astros consistently failing with RISP, so here's this: They were actually (slightly) better with RISP last season.
