BTW, the Texas-Angels game on Friday starts a full hour and a half before the Astros game. If LAA is getting blown out I think they'll save Keuchel.
Still have to factor in Yankees. Winning WC1 instead of WC2 and hosting the game could be on the table.
If you pitch Keuchel on Friday, it leaves the possibility of him going on short rest for a WC playoff on Tuesday
Well the dream scenario is to tie for the division and go with Fiers in a Monday game, but yeah as far as the WC goes it would be nice to be able to save Keuchel.
Yeah for sure, but if WC2 is looking really solid then I don't think they'll burn Keuchel to try to get WC1.
You don't mess around and have 2 guys not knowing which will start 1.5 hours or less before the game.
We'll see man. I think it's a real possibility. With that said, I hope the Angels win tomorrow to keep the division in play.
This is nice in a fantasy world, but there's a human component too - players like routines and knowing what's going on. No one they are going to make a last minute change on who their starter is for Friday.
I've gotta say, the pitching matchups don't look that bad for the Angels. Sweep the Dbacks and let the chips fall where they may.
If the Angels are down 9-0 approaching game time and had lost the night before then I would bet money Keuchel gets shelved. I'm just saying, it's a possibility.
everyone should be rooting for the angels tomorrow. as hard as it sounds, its in our best interest. our chances of catching up the rangers are very slim. we needed a sweep and a rangeres to lose one of the two games they had won for us to really be in it.
These matchups favor LAA IMO. <table class="tablehead" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tbody><tr class="oddrow team-10-13"><td><nobr>Thu, Oct 1</nobr></td> <td align="left"> @ Texas </td> <td align="right">8:05 PM</td> <td align="center"> </td><td>Heaney (6-3)</td> <td>Holland (3-3)</td> <td colspan="2">2,299 available</td></tr> <tr class="evenrow team-10-13"><td><nobr>Fri, Oct 2</nobr></td> <td align="left"> @ Texas </td> <td align="right">8:00 PM</td> <td align="center"></td><td>Weaver (7-12)</td> <td>Perez (3-6)</td> <td colspan="2">1,818 available</td></tr> <tr class="oddrow team-10-13"><td><nobr>Sat, Oct 3</nobr></td> <td align="left"> @ Texas </td> <td align="right">1:05 PM</td> <td align="center"> </td><td>Santiago (9-9)</td> <td>Lewis (17-9)</td> <td colspan="2">3,203 available</td></tr> <tr class="evenrow team-10-13"><td><nobr>Sun, Oct 4</nobr></td> <td align="left"> @ Texas </td> <td align="right">3:05 PM</td> <td align="center">TBS</td><td>Tropeano (3-2)</td> <td>Hamels (12-8)</td> <td colspan="2">2,362 available</td></tr></tbody></table>
You still aren't factoring in the Yankees, and, if they are somehow forced to start Keuchel Sunday, you then lose the possibility of him for Monday, Tuesday, and the opening game of the ALDS.
Keuchel is not going to be used to try to get WC1 if WC2 is sewn up. They will throw LMJ, Fiers or whoever.
the angels can lose thursday and friday, win saturday, and then keuchel is forced to pitch sunday, if we lose friday and saturday.
You pitch Keuchel on Friday regardless. Depending on the game flow you can take him out early if you feel like the game is in hand but you cannot plan ahead when you haven't even clinched a playoff berth.
he's not going to start the game then pitch monday, no matter how soon he gets pulled. you guys are trying to get too cute here.
