I will take a season of 850 OPS that can play 1st and DH. His salary for next season is $8,000,000. I don't think that is waste of assets at all. I can live with that guy in my line up, especially with Lind and Gomez both being free agents after next year. Go for it while you can.
Not when guys have done more for far less money... and been consistent enough the entire season to not require a prolonged benching. He can go on the most amazing hot streak ever.... I'm totally rooting for it... and I will full well keep in mind that it will still scream more Matt Maloney than Carlos Beltran. In the sport that completely mitigates "hot streaks" and "flukes" by the large sample size, it really is a no-brainer that Carter has been a huge disappointment.... but much like a hot player at the craps table or blackjack, you ride the wave as long as you can.
I'm getting ahead of myself worrying about Kazmir's start tomorrow. Chances are we may need a fresh pen for tomorrow night. Hopefully kazmir can give a quality start. Like Isaid, I feel good with Fiers going tonight.

I hate seeing Conger in the lineup because of his defense but man Castro has been horrible at the plate
If Matt Maloney shot us to a NBA Title, he would have earned his salary too. If I could see the future and tell Jim Crane that if he signs scrub-player-X to a $10MM deal, he will make a critical play to win a World Series, and if he does not, we will not a WS, do you think Crane would do it? I'd say absolutely. None of his other stats would matter - the $10MM would have won the team a WS, which is the entire point of fielding a team. Player X thus would absolutely have been worth his salary. If Carter magically carries this team to a title (or far in the playoffs), then he earns his $5MM. That doesn't mean he will be worth it next year or that we should keep him - but we can't say at this point that he hasn't earned this year's salary, because the season's not yet done.
Kinda was hoping we would see Stassi tonight vs the lefty. Sure Conger has been here all year but with his right handed hitting struggles and defense I see a rare opportunity to start our 3rd catcher tonight.
Agreed. At this point I trust Stassi more than Conger when you factor in both offensive/defensive capabilities.
just because of that, conger is going to give you the donger slammy aka a grand slam. yes, we will get runners on bases!
Astro for life!! And a lefty on the bump for the Tigers. Hope the Rangers' struggleso against southpaws continues tonight. Go 'stros!!
if the game is close after 7, I'm guessing Hinch substitutes Castro or Stassi for Conger for D purposes. Can't have Conger Congering nightmares in our heads with his sh**y defense.
Keep living in the hypothetical/best possible scenario world... Chris Carter, by any metric in reality, has not been worth his salary this year. He has not added to wins that this team needed the entire season (not just this past week). And an unlikely hot 2-3 weeks doesn't change that.... it just further fuels the bipolar nature of him that makes him expendable. Front offices routinely make bad signings due to either sentiment or by living in the moment. If Carter carries them to the World Series, they lucked out more than anything else... as the only reason he's playing again (after getting rightly benched) was no other viable options when Marwin got injured.
On the bus headed to the game. Have high expectations for this team to tee off on Nuno. Just need Fiers to pitch solidly as he has been lately. I'll be 20-25 rows behind home plate in my Biggio jersey, fyi. Ticket prices went in the toilet.. Good news for me!
