Major League debut. Had never thrown 100 pitches in the pros. Was right at 100 pitches. Just walked his 4th batter of the night. Raining. 2 years removed from Tommy John surgery.
I did read your entire post and get where you stand. I don't think people are going at you specifically...you're not the only one who had something to say. Regardless, my question to you and another person or 2 who mentioned that it was the 20th game.. any thoughts on what time of season is more reasonable to go deeper into games? This was his 5th start (28 IP prior to yesterday), plus 4 ST starts spanning 16+ innings. When does it start to become appropriate? My opinion--that's hard to judge. I don't think it's the first start of the season. And I'd say for a guy like Keuchel who isn't coming off major surgery, it's sometime in the 1st half of the season. When exactly that is, I think is very dependent on the player. To me, it being the 20th vs 30th vs 40th game means very little in itself. (And for the sake of this point I'm ignoring the extra off day.)
Just checked the OP to see who their starter is today...gotta ask: lopsided in whose favor? Bauer vs. Astros: 5 GS, 5-0, 1.97 ERA, 32 IP, 20 H, 13 BB, 38 K
While true, he's been an incredibly streaky player throughout his career so far. And right now, he's not off to a great start--2 duds, though the most recent was solid. I'd say we're in ok shape, but yeah not lopsided
Astros have a totally different team. Six bats in the lineup today that weren't here at this point last season.
Yeah, the internet sometimes works better with the winky emoticon guy, but I don't like those things.
Astros currently have all but two positions (SS and DH) above 100 in OPS+ (most of them above 120). When the Puerto Ricans get their **** together, this lineup will be like the late 90's early 2000's Yankees.
Last time, McCullers started, he threw 100 pitches, and Devo threw the rest. I would love to see that again. That would leave 7 relievers for Hinch tomorrow.
Have to get Devo up soon. McCullers is spinning his curve up there right now. It's going to get rough.
