The roster crunch going forward is a good problem to have. They'll have to consolidate at some point but for now the good minor league depth is a huge plus.
So what you are saying is that most teams would be freaking out if within a week their starting center fielder pulled a hammy, backup center fielder got a concussion, and the up and down OF got a contusion running into the all star second baseman?
Ha! On the bright side, all of these injuries are minor and shouldn't set the players back more the a few games. In fact, Luhnow said on the radio this morning that Marisnick really didn't need 10 days off, but indicated that the team thought it was best due to the circumstances (which I interpreted to mean that they are intending to hold out Springer a couple more games, but didn't want to put him on the 10 day DL).
Yes they were just being cautious. You couldn't afford to go into last night's game with so little depth, especially when Springer's injury could potentially be easily re-injured. Same thing could be said for Teoscar right now. He may not need 10 days, but you don't want to short your bench when they probably want to give Altuve the day off.
With Kemp being up I would not be surprised at all to see him in the lineup at 2B. I'd be completely fine with Altuve getting a day even if he's ready to go.
Hinch is a player's manager/coach and that's why the players will run through a brick wall for him. I heard a cool interview with Sparks about hinch encouraging all the players to be themselves. At the same time people can't have it both ways. There is a reason why Altuve will take off and get picked sometimes..because hinch gives him the green light. He wants him to be aggressive. And I've seen the same complaints about that situation. Back in 2015, I wanted Dallas to go infinite innings thinking he was untouchable in the health department. Last season, something didn't seem right. Some of us speculated injury, others "he has regressed". Now I just want him under 100 pitches. It adds up. I don't mind any of our bull pen guys giving up a lead every once in a while. It's baseball. It's guaranteed to happen. Did you guys know that the highest horse measures almost 6'10. That's Dwerp howard or luis scola height!
I can't imagine how his neck isn't sore as hell today, that was practically like being in a car crash.
Really surprised that they continue to carry Hoyt. Peacock, Devenski and Feliz can all pitch 1-4 innings.
Hinch penmanship kind of sloppy for his standards today. Poor guy is probably shook up from all the injuries.
It's the right decision. It's easy to say otherwise considering our injury issues but eight man bullpen in the AL makes all the sense in the world.
This is my initial post about pitch count. My first post about the game was how incredible the bottom of the order has been thus far. As for the pitch count, it was my opinion that it was too much given it was the 20th game of the season for a pitcher who complained that his arm hurt all last season. It also wasn't just the pitch count it was that they were up 4-1 in the 9th. On top of that if this team does what we want to do this season (go deep in the playoffs and potentially win a WS) that means that DK could potentially be looking at an additional 7-9 games in the playoffs). Thus an inning here and there over 30-32 starts adds up. When bobrek mentioned DK's comments about wanting to go deeper in the game I said that certainly made me understand where Hinch was coming from. I also stated NUMEROUS freakin times that it's Hinch's team, and I have no problem with what he did last night. Just that I would have handled it differently, and some of you seem to have a problem with this. Those who have a problem with me stating my opinion I guess it goes without saying that moving forward you'll have no problem with me calling you a "whiner" when you share your opinion on a specific situation. I'm "whining"? Some of you are worse then my 10 yr old daughters Girl Scout group. My intent wasn't to rain on a nice win against the Tribe. Please go find one damn post where I've ever done this!!!!! I've been NOTHING but positive about this team. Was it so freakin off base for me to share MY OPINION on handling DK last night given the situation? Then it's turned into what I'm saying is "whining"? How many times do I read on here people blasting Hinch on bringing a certain pitcher in or playing Jake too damn much or whatever else someone wants to share. It's a damn opinion and the last I checked this is a fan forum where people share their opinions. To say there's not a mgr out there who wouldn't have pulled DK in this situation is flat out BS. Just last week Dave Roberts pulled a pitcher who had a no-hitter through 7 1/3 innings and only throwing 100 pitches?
Over the course of the season, I tend to agree. Over a 10 day stretch when it is questionable whether to DL a player or not, I question it.
Me too. Having 2 guys on the bench you only plan on using in an emergency is not good. Really handcuffs a manager that has only one healthy bench player now. And the bullpen is as rested as it will be all year.
