Just glanced over the Elias Rankings and Barmes has barely flinched from a couple of weeks ago... actually dropped back a little... still a big 5 points or so away from Type B status with the season starting to wind down. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/elias-rankings/ My guess was that he wouldn't make it considering his age and that he was hitting way above his career level. I understand the basics of how they calculate the rankings and I guess you see weird jumps now and then but it's looking like a longshot at this point.
The Astros are driving Giant fans crazy. They probably saw this stretch on the schedule and were feeling good about it. They got a bit lucky to even win that last game in Houston.
I would say he has been very good adapting to corralling any put out throws that could have been Errors for some other 1st Basemen, however his range at 1st is still a hindrance. Together, they probably cancel each other out.
Jesus, I have Vogelsong on my fantasy team, what's he doing losing to the Astros in back to back starts!?
What stands out to me most about those rankings is that Jeff Keppinger is currently a solid Type A status. The lack of foresight from the upper ranks of the organization is grating. The team keeps Barmes, who while is admittedly the veteran glue, who will not bring back any picks at the end of his tenure...while the team trades Keppinger for what will amount to a swing SP (despite a few solid starts, Sosa's minor league stats reflect not much higher expectations) and some future middle relief help (Stoffel). I would hope that most front offices trust their staff enough to hinges their chances on a 1st round pick AND the sandwich pick.
But that assumes that he would reject arbitration, which might not be the case... So we would be on the hook next year for him at a price that's higher than the Astros would be willing to pay.
Actually it doesn't matter at all. He is still under club control next year. He can't reject arbitration.
If Happ can't have a decent start tonight against this crew in this ballpark, not sure what he can do. SS Cabrera 2B Keppinger RF Beltran CF Ross LF Belt 3B Tejada 1B DeRosa C Stewart LHP Bumgarner
