Oh yeah, someone should tell the Giants to save those uni's for Halloween only. And Lee does the predictable
Inning-ending DP and Lee's horrible season continues. We had the slimmest of chances if he could've kept it going.
If you've ever wondered what it would look like to have two Prince Fielders on your team, just take a look at the Giants. That's a lot of blubber in the heart of the order. I saw a replay of Sandoval legging out a triple the other day. I laughed out out loud. Then I watched it again and laughed out loud again.
Castro is now 6th in the PCL in walks (sort by BB): http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?t=l_bat&lid=112&sid=t102 What's particular impressive about that is that he's not hitting for any kind of power so pitchers don't have much reason to pitch carefully to him. On top of that, he has fewer PA than all but one person ahead of him. Look at the guy right behind him on that list. He has more walks in fewer PA and a better BB/SO than Posey but Posey is mashing the ball and hitting for average on top of walking at a good rate. Posey is 5th in the league in OPS while Castro is close to the bottom among qualified hitters.
Manzella ... man. The kid is just awful. I would think swinging violently 3 times per AB would be more successful than what his approach is now.
I wonder how a player would do with that strategy. Obviously, if it was the first 3 pitches, pitchers would learn and just throw them all out of the strikezone. However, what if you told him before each pitch to decide whether to take or swing, no matter what? It takes that decision-making out of his head during the actual pitch. Would that make him better or worse?
