what about 2-2 but capped off with an awful, awful, momentum-destroying chokejob of a loss heading into a 3-game series with the cardinals? we are going to be 7 games back after wednesday. not sure if that will be a good or bad thing.
This is the second time you have said this in the last hour. Chill out, Nancy. You mind if we actually play the games against St. Louis before assuming they'll sweep, considering we have just split the series against the best team in the NL on the road?
Yes we actually could have. If our manager actually used some strategy, it would be 3-3. Not saying Kemp is Pujols or something, but cmon Ausmus was batting next with 2 outs.
we could get 4 or 5 more innings of ABs and we wouldn't score anyways...just take the L and be happy to be 500 and 4 games back.
fine but use your brain. do you really think they'll sweep with Wandy and Roy pitching in the series? Moehler has been pitching better also so there is a better chance of us sweeping them.
You've got to be kidding me ... I'd rather take my chance against Kemp with no one on than Ausmus with a man on base. The problem was the pitch not the strategy. Did you miss the 2 RBI doubles that Ausmus had in the game?
yeah i think they'll sweep or take 2 of 3. either one would be devastating. by the way, how does a major market like the mets wind up with tim redding and fernando nieve as 2 of their starters?
Every dog has his day. Ausmus had 2 doubles all season before today. Kemp is the superior hitter period. Any ways, satisfied with the split but I guess we aren't aiming for the sky anymore as Astros fans are we?
Wandy has been good recently and is always lights out at home. Roy is Roy. Moehler has 3 quality starts in a row and 5 in his last 6. We then have a home series against a team below .500, who as you say, have Nieve and Redding as starters. I'd say 4-2 is the over/under over the next 6 games. I'd be surprised and disappointed with anything less. No reason for pessimism yet. We'll be back within 3 by the end of next weekend. All we have to do is hang around 3-5 games behind over the next month and wait for the traditional Cards/Cubs collapse in September
We should have won this game, Bourn on 2nd w/ no out twice and he doesn't score. ortiz pitched well and Arias although he choked with the glove only gave up 1 run and got out of bases loaded trouble. Even though he messed up today I still like Arias. Even with the errors, he didn't let it affect his pitching. Many young players would have given up a homer after those 2 errors. He kept his composure and made his pitches. He is closer material IMO.
I am actually ok with the loss... Ortiz pitched good Berkman should be back tomorrow But Arias needs to work on concentration bigtime...he lost his focus on three straight plays Injuries are starting to be an issue If we can take two of three from the redbirds Il be ok with this...to be honest if we are still around 500 by the tradeline il be fine with the brutal schedule.
Coop is running him into the ground, JD even mentioned it last night. He either pitches or warms up (often multiple times) about 3 out of every 4 games.
Today was another game in a season full of games like this, that we should have won. There is absolutely no excuse for the loss today.
I really thought we had a chance to take all four. If not for a mental lapse by Hampton we would have been Saturday night's game. What is really beginning to worry me is how bad Pence is starting to look at the plate. He also from what I can see on the tv, taking bad angles to balls in the field. He has already given 43 points on the batting average.
