Not really. Ausmus, for his career, has been significantly better. Q is about as bad as they come as a hitter for non-pitchers. Ausmus' career OPS is about 100 points better. Defensively, I don't think many catchers call games and handle pitchers as well as Ausmus. As far as throwing runners out, Q has been really good the past few years in limited appearances but Ausmus actually has a higher career CS% than Q. Ausmus is making $1 mil this season this season while Q is making $610K. Ausmus' numbers are better but he's not playing quite as much. I'd probably take Ausmus over Q in a backup role.
Ausmus wanted to move back home(San Diego) and the closest he could get was LA. So, he never was an option for us this year.
Does anybody know of a good source to find out how often a hitter gets into 0-2 counts compared to league average? I would imagine it's somewhere on BR but I can't seem to find it. I believe Pence gets into 0-2 counts much more than average.
