Jennings did get away with some very long flyball outs, but this time, I thought he was going to keep it in the park. How foolish of me. Well, taking 2-of-3 from the Dodgers isn't bad. A sweep would've been amesome, but with Jennings pitching, you expect to get blown out. I guess we should be happy he only allowed 4 runs. *sigh*
This isn't only Jennings fault either. We had several opportunities to break the game wide open. And Berkman is a strikeout machine. He strikes out more often than he gets a hit. SO: 27.6% AVG: .262 That doesn't include his 2 hits & 2 strikeouts tonight.
I dont even know what to say. They had Penny on the ropes today and couldnt knock him out. Story of the season.
Oh right. I forgot they play 4 in LA and 3 in SD. I got them mixed up. My mistake. So let's take 3-of-4 from the Dodgers!
IMO, Pence wouldn't have received as much play if Willy were manning CF on opening day. I don't even know if he would have been called up, at this point.
Does that make the trade worthwhile? With Lane sucking and Pence tearing it up in triple A, I think he would have gotten called up. Well, that is, using their real world performances as a bench mark.
Even if Pence is called up, I just don't understand why you'd want to take Luke Scott out of the lineup for Willy Taveras.
I'd love to see Luke in full time, but since Garner loves his righty-lefty match ups, Pence and he could platoon I guess.
I agree with you, but it's a problem I'd love to have. I've tried defending this trade, but I just can't any more. I see it more as still having Hirsch. Jennings is likely gone after this season. With his and the team's performance thus far, I would have rather gone with youth (and much less $). Hindsight is 20/20 and I'd be willing to bet that Purp doesn't make that deal if he had another shot at it. I also wonder where Jennings would be today had he not had that 11 run 1st inning just before the trade deadline. You'd like to think that gm's are going to look at more than just 1 game (or even just 1 inning), but I have to imagine that what they could have gotten in return dropped significantly in value after that performance.
The trade will never be worthwhile. Lane wouldn't have been in the lineup anyway because the OF would be Lee, Taveras, and Scott.
We'll just let the Cards and the Reds do the dirty work, and then we'll swoop in and take over the division. I'm feeling positive today.
Lamb 2-for-3, 2 E Wigginton 0-for-2, 2 GIDP, W, 0 E I guess I was wrong that Lamb would be better at 1B than 3B. And if anyone is wondering, Scott didn't play because he reaggravated his groin. Just our luck.
We have 7 more games w/ St. Louis. It will be tough, but we have a better chance of beating them than the Brewers. The Brewers have our # this year.
