Great effort there by WIlson. He pulled that HR back into play but couldn't hold on for the out.

    Ugh. 7-0 now.

I think it's time to yank Taylor.

    3 hits in a row. 7-0 LA...NO OUTS>

Their confidence is shot, the starting pitchin has not been great lately, the bullpen stinks and the batters are struggling.

Not a good combination, could 19-9 have been fools gold?

19-15 is not all that great.

atleast we are currently 2 games out, but we'll probably have to add another game to that.

Could be worse, what if we were the cubbies......

can anyone explain this to me?

"Astros, who reportedly have offered him a $20 million contract in which the prorated amount would equal about $11.67million if he returns June 15."

So the actual money Clemens would be getting is 11 million? That 20 million would be for the entire season, but he's only playing half a season, so hes getting half?

I'll take 19-15 anytime, especially considering the Astros history of slow starts. Usually you can compensate if one of those three areas aren't clicking, which they have shown this season, as the bullpen hasn't been too consistent yet. But when everything is going wrong all at once you're not gonna win many games. Oswalt and Pettite are proven winnners, so they'll bounce back. Our rookies have been strong all season, so one outing shouldn't be taken as the new norm. I still have faith the bullpen... i.e. Qualls, Wheeler and Lidge will turn it around. And the offense, well they've been doing a fairly good job of producing runs, even when they're in a rut.

I think what this team needs is some good ole fashioned home cooking. But sooner or later they're gonna have to start winning on the road.

well, seems pretty fair that we kill his family and pay him half if he returns later than ... oh say the date that everyone else started the season on... :)

and asdf, poseidon tomorrow, 10 pm....

I guess the Astros are showing us how bad they can be after showing us how good they can be?

This is getting ridiculous. The starting pitching has taken a turn for the worse. Even Oswalt is having problems. Why does everyone have to fall apart at the same time?

If their trying to create another bad situation to bounce back from, then their certainly doing a good job of it.

MLB contracts are based on a 183 day season. If he were to play the entire season, it would be a $20 million contract. Based on actual time, it works out to 11.67 million.

I didn't expect us to keep the sizzling April pace for the whole year, but I also didn't expect a 6 game losing streak. Especially one where RoyO and Taylor both get shelled.

    Please make it stop.

Remember this guys...last season they were 15-30 and went to the WS.
They are in a funk...as all teams get into.
They will turn it around and at least had a nice padded early record to fall back on.

    I think 19-9 was a big misleading.

Started off hot... but this is essentially the same offense as last season. Scoring runs is a major problem.

The rotation is much weaker, starting two rookies and a 2nd year player.

    I'm not too surprised.

But again, I don't see Purpura making any changes. The infield is set, and he's too in love with Lane to make a move in the outfield. He probably should though. This lineup is hurting for a left handed power bat in the #5 slot. I'd settle for Lamb at 1B, Berkman in LF, Preston in RF even.

That's the lineup today, but with Lane in RF.

    Bruntlett at 2nd.

I don't think they're losing because of a lack of offense... much like in the World Series, the pitching has been horrible top to bottom throughout the 6 game losing streak.

The best "pitched" game out of all 6 was the first one, where the bullpen blew up at the end (thus, the pitching was still inherently the reason we lost... that and defense). Since then, Wandy, Nieve, Roy, Andy, and Taylor have all failed to have quality starts... you're not going to win ANY games if your starters can't give u those.

Last year, the pitching would keep the games close, but the offense would fail to come through. This year, the offense has rarely been completely MIA... at least not to the pathetic nature that it was often last year. Its true that Lance has been the only consistent force... but if just one more guy steps up game-to-game, and you get quality pitching, you can win a bunch of games.

In the end, however, I don't care if the offense is improved, the same, or worse... you can't win games without consistently good pitching.

19-9 may have been misleading simply because of our bullpen ineptitude, but they still had the lowest starters ERA during that time, which is what enabled them to have leads in late innings (which the bullpen either blew, or almost blew). I don't think its too much to ask Roy and Andy to have quality starts EVERY time out... and if you get just one more guy to do it consistently per week (between Wandy, Nieve, and Taylor), they should be able to take 3 out of 5 each time... which could be a potential winning percentage for this team (.600).
