Failed to slide on a play at the plate where the throw was wide, and the only way the catcher was able to tag him was because he didn't slide.
And there's one bad side effect of all those pitching moves... a "tough" play, but any average OF should be able to make it.
The problem is, Porter was a bench coach for NL teams his entire coaching career, prior to him getting his shot. He "should" be experienced enough to manage an NL team... unless he simply wasn't paying attention.

This team is winning despite of Porter, it will cost us when it counts. This is unbelieveable yall we are tied with the BoSox 6 back for wildcard spot. Who wouldve thunk it a month ago?
And Washington spent his entire coaching career in the AL. I think most managers tend to "over-manage"... sometimes they just want to "do" something, even if they're basing it on things as arbitrary as "feel" or "gut instincts". Porter has always been more pro-active to make moves, whether its constant lineup order tinkering, calling for hit/runs/steals, or making multiple pitching changes in an inning. I'm sure Porter was salivating at the potential opportunity of keeping Sipp in without having to actually take him out... and had this planned for some time now.
