Bringing in Valverde for the first time in over a month to stop the bleeding against his former team...

Bourn just attempted a drag bunt and ended up flying out to 1st. :D

Sorry for all the consecutive posts tonight. Nobody else showed up.

That got pretty sketchy... but the good guys pulled it off. It would've sucked to blow it for Roy and take away from a big night for Lance and Miggy.

    I'm out...

An ugly win. Would of been nice had the bullpen not nearly blown it but Hawkins came through again. A lot of players are banged up. Lee left the game, Sampson left the game, Keppinger hurting, and Blum left the game or is hurting. Moehler may have to go the distance after using 5 relievers tonight. Hopefully we can win the series tomorrow and move on to Texas.

Wow, there doesn't seem to be a lot of interest in the Astros these days. I've actually been watching a lot lately since NBA is winding down.

This is what I've been trying to figure out. Why are the Astros so insistent on keeping this guy when guys like Wesley Wright get sent down or Nieve is put on waivers? After the world series appearance, 4 years ago, you would think a guy would have some type of progression.

Wandy, also from 2005 WS, has shown he can be a good pitcher, early in the season, but knows he needs to put work in to be consistent instead of where he is now in the season.

I love Backe for what he has done for the Astros, but he needs to be let go or thrown into the minors. He was horrible in 2008 and injured in 2007 & 2006. He has flat out been terrible this year when healthy.

I think Backe's impressive postseason runs from YEARS ago are whats keeping him on this team, that's been my theory for the last couple of years. He's turned into our new Dave Borkowski, the long man you put in when the game is out of reach and you don't really care how hard he's going to get hit (its inevitable with these two) as long as he eats up some innings. Backe should try and go Rick Ankiel/Bogesvic on us, even if his is avg is around .142 I dont think that will hurt us as bad as having a 12.00 ERA

I think he's been struggling with his curve most of the year but got it working halfway through last night's game. It definitely helps him when he's got it going.

That one he threw to Garland was the nastiest

Yup, good guy to test it out against as well.

Crossing my fingers for Moehler today. He's on thin ice and we need to keep rolling.

    Nearly identical to yesterday.

Tejada knocks in the 1st run of the game then 2 batters later, Puma goes yard.

Yup, he's been back for about a month to be precise.

Even when Lee gets back, I think it's time to go with this lineup:

    Bourn
    Pence
    Berkman
    Lee
    Tejada
    etc...

Miggy is too slow and grounds into too many DPs to hit in the 2-hole over the long run. His lack of patience also makes it difficult for Bourn to steal. Pence has more patience and more speed than Tejada and is hitting nearly as well despite his current mini-slump (better if you're looking at OBP).

It's not just Backe. What to do with Moehler?

Or is it too soon to worry about Moehler consider his injury early in the season and our lack of other options?
