Garner's going to go with the "triumverate" to close this game out, with Oswalt up to bat this inning (and at 97 hard earned pitches).

A good outing by the bullpen would semblance a sort of consistency that they really haven't shown this season... if this team is to go on a run, they have to have that pen pitching well.

sucks to have runners thrown out. the ball was cutoff by byrnes, that was a mistake to send ausmus.

that was a boneheaded decision by the 3rd base coach

I'll argue that Everett would likely have better stats at the leadoff spot than Willy T... hell, Everett IS a better hitter than him regardless (and his career stats prove it).

And Willy (while he has a good arm) is still not a tremendous fielder... you have to see enough games to notice it (whereas you only need to watch AE once, live, to see just how much range he covers at SS).

Byrnes has become a pretty annoying player... he has that Nowitski-look that you can't help but fume over (except that he's made plenty of good plays when his team needed it... unlike the german).

He was benched in the playoffs, starting with game 3 of the NLCS... if we could only choose 2 of 3 (b/t Ausmus, Everett, and Willy), you know who the team is taking. Having all three is problematic.

Isn't there an NL cap to how many games a ballclub's pen is allowed to give away?

    This is beyond ridiculous.

What the HELL is Qualls problem... not only does he give it up, but he gives it up in RECORD TIME FASHION!

World Series: 1 pitch - grand slam HR... team is losing
Interleague play: 1 pitch - grand slam HR... game tied
Vs. D-backs on Sunday: 4 runs in 6 minutes.... game tied
Vs. D-backs today: 2 pitches, 2 hits, 2 runs.... team is losing.

Nieve's looking pretty damn good at Round Rock right now.

why don't you just compare last season since it was willy's rookie sesason. willy had a better ba, a higher ob, 34 stolen bases. everett had 15 more rbi.

Well, the club saw something that makes him more valuable as a reliever than as a 4th or 5th starter... and frankly (given the inconsistency of a bullpen on a yearly basis), its not a bad idea.

His slurve is a legitimate strikeout pitch... and when you complement it with a 96 mph fastball that has more movement than normal, he can be a great set-up man.

As a starter, his stuff was less effective... even though he was pretty consistent with it, he would struggle to pitch into the 6th each time out (and his fastball wouldn't have the same giddup as when he came in for short stints).
