Good job by Escalona and Del Rosario today. Almost hoping they lets Del Rosario hit for himself...not really feeling Fulchino or Lopez.
So what do you guys think about calling up Lyles? I'm sure Lyles is thrilled but my take is that there is really no good reason for it. Lyles' ERA isn't bad at AAA but he's getting hit pretty good and his K rate is down. He's young, doesn't have a power arm and is still working on his curveball. There is also the risk that he tries to overthrow to impress even if it's unlikely that he gets hurt. I don't know the exact money aspect of it all but I found a little here: http://blog.chron.com/ultimateastros/2011/05/28/astros-top-prospect-jordan-lyles-called-up-to-replace-injured-rodriguez/ I guess if he only gets a start or two, that won't be a factor but I'm not sure I'm reading that right. Regardless, I don't see the point of the move, everything considered, no matter how he performs. It would make more sense to use a journeyman in this situation and let Lyles get more needed seasoning in the minors.
why did they waste money on bill hall exactly, i'd rather see angel sanchez than him until kepp returned.
Its good to see Kepp back. We brought Bill Hall in for his additional power, but he has 2 HR in 124ABs versus Kepp's 1 in 13ABs
Good thing they don't track Near Errors or the Cubs would have about 15 of 'em today. Too bad Soriano had to leave the game. He would've blended in for once.
I've only been watching since the 7th, but their defense has certainly been terrible in those 3 innings.
Bill Hall is the Preston Wilson / Pedro Feliz on this team. And Clint Barmes is also useless. Get them out of here.
Shame they couldn't get Lyles a start at home for his debut. Might have made things a bit easier with a supportive crowd. Well..Here's to getting the Jordan Lyles era off in style...beating the cubs and zambrano in their own house!
The one game this series not on WGN, and it is the one I most want to watch. Guess I'm stuck with the radio.
Eh... first starts could tend to be disasters. Might as well get it out of the way on the road, and come back home with a strong start. Oswalt made his debut on the road IIRC. Man, Walrus was totally incensed over that blown call at first... I can't wait till he gets a full season under his belt, and starts becoming more of a vocal leader. He reminds me of a Bagwell-type... somebody quiet, but who can lead by the example he sets for everybody else... and can still put people in their place.
