Hmm, Gervacio's a reliever. Perhaps they called him up since our bullpen is so depleted. If Roy makes his next start, I guess Norris will slide into Ortiz's spot. If he doesn't and Norris has to pitch, I could see Bazardo replacing Gervacio for Ortiz's spot.

From what I remember, Gervacio is pretty much a submariner, which is always fun to watch. IIRC he is great against right handers, not so much against lefties, and he pitches from way over on one side of the rubber. But strictly a one inning sinker/slider type.

moehler. seems kind of messed up that they cut him this quickly after the game. not saying he didn't deserve it. ed wade seems like a real hot-head.

Well yeah. Remember how quickly he cut Shawn Chacon loose after their little fracas?

I'm not sure why y'all dislike Moehler so much. He had a terrible start to the season, but since his return from the DL, he has a 4.15 ERA. That's not bad for a 4/5 starter, if you think about it. He also had 7 straight games of 3 ER or less at once point.

Ortiz handled it like a pro but haha you gotta find it funny the comments he made: (Via Footer's twitter)

Of course they dont feel like they can send you out there when you give up 4,5,6 runs in <5 innings everytime out.

Looks like they're giving Norris his shot by bringing up Gervacio. Gervacio had a pretty good start to his professional carrer, but slowed down a bit once promoted to AA and AAA.

Good move, IMO. Once Hampton goes on the DL again, they can give Bazardo a shot.

You know... a rotation that looked like:

    Oswalt
    Wandy
    Norris
Anyone not named Mike Hampton (Bazardo? Gervacio?)
    Moehler

Is actually not looking that bad. Man, it is amazing how much better things seem when Russ Ortiz is not in your starting five.

ideally, i'd love to see somebody on oswalt's level thrown into the mix, but add somebody at least as good as wandy, and you have a good to great rotation. as another poster has alluded to, taking a chance on kazmir regaining form (if attainable) seems like the most sensible solution for the future.

I remember reading last winter that some people in the Astros believe that Norris is going to be a reliever in the majors. He had very nice AAA numbers as a starter, but so does Paulino. I like Paulino's potential, but I think if you expect Norris to step in and be a competent middle of the rotation starter, especially for the rest of this year, there is a pretty good chance that you will be disappointed.

Insert Zach Duke and finish rebuilding the Pirates. that would make my Summer...

    Oswalt
    Wandy
    Norris
    Duke
    Moehler
